The campsite was beautiful. Staff was friendly. However, the bathroom was disgusting. The bathrooms were not cleaned in the four days we were there and in the mens room one toilet was broken and the other was clogged. Maintenance eventually got out to clear the clog and fix the toilet. The bathroomran out of toilet paper on the fourth day. The Camp host was off the entire period of time we were there.

People was so loud. Loud music, loud talking over midnight. Around campsite #33 the campsites are so crowded. I won't go there again.

Although the campsites are really close together, the large bushes and trees help provide some privacy. The flush toilets/bathrooms were very clean (which I didn't exactly expect), although the lights in the women's when I went didn't work so I had to use a headlamp in the night. Fellow campers were respectful of being quiet in the night and the campground was very peaceful. Most people leave during the day to go into the park's main areas, so if you stay at camp when the sun's out you're pretty much on your own. The little shop was nice too! Rangers were on top of keeping things in good shape, we had a guy come out one morning to weld our neighbor's broken fire pit. The entire campground is pretty much on a hill so keep that in mind when you're setting up your tent. There are a couple of nice hikes in walking distance to the campground but definitely be up for driving into town and then entering one of the main park entrances to get to other hikes and scrambling.

Great spot for checking out the park! This area was filled with a ton of Joshua Trees and after seeing other campgrounds when exploring the park, this one was definitely the best one. Also a plus were the flushable toilets (but no showers unfortunately).

I think there were only two things nice about the campsite was (1) it’s the first campsite as you’re going to Joshua Tree NP, and (2) is that it there was restroom facilities (flushable toilets and sinks with soap dispensers). However, the pitfalls with Black Rock is that the roads are horrible (now I don’t mind dirt roads, but these paved roads were bad), there were no clear directions on where the campsites were, in the sense of sites 1-20 this way and so on and so forth, there were no site that had a flat surface to put a tent, and the sites were weirdly placed, the site that I was at was what it felt like was on the other side of the double camp site. So I’ll just stay at Indian Cove.

It was a beautiful campsite with very clean bathrooms and a functional water pumps. It was also very close to numerous trails. I really enjoyed the nature center and gift shop.

Stayed in mid June and the campground was almost empty. A spectacular place to camp under the Joshua trees! Would highly recommend this location.

Cute, quiet campground among the Joshua Trees. Didn't realize how far away it was from the park entrance (about 40-50 min drive) but very close to a Walmart if you forget to bring something, and gas/food.

Of course the National Park staff were excellent - helpful and enthusiastic. Loved the Black Rock campground - the fact that it is filled with Joshua Trees - could not be a better environment. And the Park is amazing - colorful, alive, lots to do and see. I am now back at home and have recommended it to everyone I talk to

The check in process was quick and easy. The ranger at the office was helpful and gave us a map with must see places. There is a small gift shop inside the registration building where we got our must get stickers and magnets from every national park we visit. Bathrooms are clean and within a short walking distance of most sites. The sites are cleaned by a volunteer group after campers leave so there was no trash when we arrived. Campground rules of quiet after 10 were abided by the fellow campers around us. This campground is a short drive from the entrance to the National Park and from grocery stores and restaurants if you forgot to pack something. This was our first time to Joshua Tree NP and out first time to Thai campground but we will definitely be returning!

Beautiful sky and close to hiking. They had only booked every other campsite so it felt very safe for Covid.

I enjoyed my stay at this campground. There are Joshua trees in each site. There’s running water and a nicely maintained bathroom. There are a couple trailheads that start here. Additionally, the nearest entrance is about a 20-30 minute drive! Not bad for running water and being on the edge of town versus other sites where you have to bring in ALL water or travel 30+ minutes to get into town

Will consider camping here again for sure

Easy access to Joshua Tree park and very friendly staff. The High Nature trail from the campsite was lovely and easy to find. I always do wish that quiet hours were earlier in the winter, though.

Various easy rated trails are good for kids. Clean restroom in the Blackrock camp ground is plus.

I stayed here during the first half of my Wilderness First Responder course. 4 days. The campground is super clean, bathrooms are managed very well with flushing toilets. During the weekend days campsites were filled (so move quickly if you are going to book), but everything was so quiet during the night. Our course was held in the vicinity of the Visitors Center - we saw coyotes, many species of birds and lots of lizards. The trees in the campground area provide ample shade. This is the forest of Joshua Tree with a lot of vegetation compared to the rest of the park. I highly recommend this spot for families, especially those with small children. Open spaces, easy access, and trails linking you to the larger side of the park. Will be back again!! I stayed in camp #33 - great for a small party, good shade, close to bathrooms.

Nice access to trails. We were surrounded by Joshua Trees, which was pretty cool. We were able to charge our devices at the ranger station while it was open, which was convenient.

A bit of a drive into the park, but a great campground close to town with very nice, clean restrooms. The only negative I have was the Park Service not updating the road status on their website. We came after the snowstorm and online it said 4wd was required for this campground. We where concerned and almost cancelled as we don't have 4wd. When we arrived it was clear of snow. Just a bit misleading and may have caused people to unnecessarily cancel.
