Always a pleasure staying here. You can always hear coyotes and this time they were singing all night.

Loved this campground! So many Joshua Trees & the facilities were great and so clean, only about a 20 minute drive from the park entrance. Would return!!

Clean flushing restrooms. Easy access to many hiking trails. Durable picnic tables and spacious campsites. Most drive paths had severe ruts but a few had been recently paved. Beautiful views both day and night.

Black Rock campground is a great spot! It was a bit noisy, definitely sold out for the night (April 15, 2024), but we had a reservation. Another review I read stated that they don't mark which sites are reserved and you may have to kick someone out of your site, but that was not the case for us. Our site was marked reserved and waiting empty for us despite the full campground. Black Rock has awesome bathrooms with counter space and running water. I know that doesn't seem like much, but most of the campgrounds in Joshua Tree do not have running water, let alone electricity in the bathrooms or anywhere to rest your toiletries. It's right on the edge of the park so you may not even feel like you're in it, but technically you are! Our site (31) was *mostly* flat. We are car sleepers, so it was a little noticeable but not too bad. Each site was well-equipped with a grill, a fire pit and a picnic table. Site 31 is a very short walk to the bathrooms, dumpsters, and water spigot. The rangers here are very friendly and helpful. The campground also has its own little nature center where you can get souvenirs, chat with rangers, and learn about the park via some exhibits.

Very nice campground, quiet nights, clean restrooms. Our tent campsite had a slope that could not be avoided. The campsites lack visual screens from other campsites, but our neighbors were sweet people.

This campground should be decommissioned given how parts are washed out, asphalt is crumbling , and some sites are hard to find. Felt bad for anyone pulling a trailer, or with a low clearance vehicle. Campsites are also just too close to others. I am from MT, not So California so really relish space.

Clean campsite. Easy access to a water source and bathrooms. Wifi is a plus. Cons: super windy and the campsites are very close to each other.

No signage to direct you to the campsites by numbers and the lay out is pretty confusing, especially if arriving after dark as there are also nearly no campground lights. Walked right past the bathroom multiple times because all the lights were off on a timer. Pretty frustrating for me after a long day driving, so be prepared!

This was the first time our little family camped without other families. The campsite was close enough to the edge of the park for when we forgot some items and needed to go into town. We were also surrounded by helpful, more veteran campers. We had the wrong stakes, having only camped in grassy areas. This could have been very bad given the gusty winds, but our tent was low enough that we did not have to re-stake in the middle of the night. Next time we'll be sure to have stakes that go into the harder ground.

The site itself was great and the area was surreal. Beautiful. Great hikes. Facilities were well maintained. Big problem: people coming there to party. I was there three nights and every night there were at least three separate parties (so 3 groups ruining the experience for the other 70). Super loud music, no respect for nature or other campers. They generally turned it off at quiet times, but were more than able to ruin the whole afternoon and evening. I just wish people who wanted to party went outside the parks. It would be amazing if the parks banned speakers/amplified music.

We were a 65-year-old grandma and two 18-year-old kids. We only stayed for one night, and that was our mistake!! We absolutely loved this campground and the Joshua Tree National Park. Our campsite was huge and we had no trouble setting up and getting our fire started. Lots of friendly families nearby and all sites were pretty close to warm, clean restrooms!!We would very highly recommend camping at Black Rock Canyon campground in the Joshua Tree National Forest! We were here in late March and the temperature got to 46 at night. But we were quite comfortable in our sleeping. There is an absolutely stunning view from the campsite.

Enjoyed the site, it was very spacious. As others comment, the campground can be noisy because it is a fairly big campground and theres not much buffer between you and your neighbor. If you want peace and quiet, stay here in the off season. But if youre camping with a group or several other people or are a friendly neighbor its a good campground for that. Its not technically in Joshua Tree National park. But it is close to Yucca Valley town amenities. Overall, had a great experience!

Camping at this location was so beautiful. You really don't keep track of time and are experiencing the desert life. Bathrooms are very clean as well.

Campsite was very close to bathrooms so that was great! Very close to other people's tents. Hard to put the tent in the ground. Noisy, glad we had ear plugs!

I would like to take advantage of this opportunity to say that the camp site was great BUT trying to make reservations on the recreation .gov website is horrible. Its is ridiculous to find out that all the campsites are cosmically reserved after being told by the website that you must wait a month OR you must wait till a certain day or time to make any reservation(s) before you can make any reservations. It is also very frustrating to find out that a particular campsite is reserved after the fact that the month you want to make a reservation says that the campsite is available.
