We loved it. Easy to find campsites. Spacious but you definitely do have neighbors. The visitor center employees are very nice and the gift shop was reasonably priced. The bathrooms were VERY clean and theres 4 stalls available. The water was easily accessible. Yes you can see the town lights but it didnt bother us and it was still pitch black. Trails are easily accessible.

Good campsites that were well maintained and cleaned regularly. Not hard to access and was able to find our reserved site easily enough, even after nightfall. My only complaint is that someone had their dog off-leash and running after them all over the campground for the entirety of their time there.

We had a lovely experience at this campground! It was our first trip to Joshua Tree. Everything is convenient and clean, we saw a bunch of wildlife. The nature center is wonderful. I had low expectations as I knew how hot it would be in August but we all had a wonderful time and will definitely return!

Rules were not enforced, people left trash on our site when they left, most bathroom stalls out of order. If I were to return to Joshua Tree, I would probably stay off site and drive in.

We stayed at site 28, and the sites on our loop were VERY close together, you were really on top of the next site. It was a little tight for our tent and camp kitchen plus one vehicle. However being close to the bathrooms and water was nice. Overall the campground is good, with access to trails, but you are about 20 minutes away from the West Entrance gate.

large site at the North entrance with numerous sites spaced close to one another. Ranger very helpful in finding good sites. Easy access to trails on N side.

#1I've camped over 50 years all over the US - tent, ground, cabin, and rv with and without family and friends. Been through Joshua Tree. 1st time camping here. In a 30' RV. The signage to where the campsites are is poor. The roads going to the campsites are very poor. I usually walk at night with no flashlight on the road to the head. The most dangerous gulleys and holes and potential to trip was right there. walking down the road.
Evidently Black Rock campground has a Nature Center, instead of a Visitor Center. The most unfriendly, unhearing, people behind the counter. Probably among the top 5 worst customer No-Service Experience.
These particular days, we were staying two week nights, I saw 4? other campers as far as my eye could see. Dozens of empty sites. My rv had broken down and My husband drove out to fix it, so we had one extra vehicle. I asked about overflow parking. Was told there was none. I get the rules. I understand the rules. But, I also get that our one campsite easily accommodated the rv and 2 vehicles. And the campsite was pretty near empty. However, being the rule follower I am, I had to purchase a campsite for my CAR for 2 nights.
I should back up. As I'm explaining my situation to the customer no service person, she insisted on READING THE RULES OUT LOUD TO ME. EACH ONE. I told her I didn't need to hear the rules if I could not solve the problem of the extra car. She told me to call a number to reserve another campsite. I asked her if there were campsites available (at the time I didn't know how empty it was). She would not tell me and just kept reading another rule.... DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING BUT YOUR PERSON, DO NOT PUT A HAMMOCK BETWEEN TWO JOSHUA TREES, DO NOT MAKE ANY NOISE. ETC. I asked her if she just couldn't reserve the extra campsite for my car. NO. YOU MUST CALL. ... I've Never encountered anyone like her.
Long story short? The weather was seriously sucky. Rain/Snow now and in the future. We cut the trip short and went home.

Clean and quiet. The campground is adjacent to many trails for exploring. The restrooms (flush toilets) are probably the cleanest I have seen in my many years of camping experience.

Nice campground. We used it to visit the north of the park : 49 palm oasis . oasis of Mara and visitor center and some trails besisdes the campground.

Campsites are dreadfully close to each other.Rest rooms are exemplary. Camp hosts were courteous, helpful, and informative.
