Love this camp site. Great hiking trail at the top of the street. Toilets are clean and near. Water is 2 site up the road.

Very windy! Come prepared with extra layers. Bathrooms do not have soap for hand washing. Otherwise they are clean. Noise was ok.

The campsite is a bid tricky to navigate upon arrival as there are no signs or directions posted so you might drive around for a bit looking for your site. Other than that, the campsite is wonderful. All the sites are spacious with plenty of space for parking and all your gear. The restrooms are clean, having running water and flush toilets are always a plus when camping. All the campgrounds inside Joshua Tree DO NOT having running water so this is a great alternate site if this is a must-have necessity for you. It's about a 20-30 mins drive to JT so it's not too far, but that depends on what you consider 'too far'. Definitely will be returning to this campground in the future.

Lush campground filled with Joshua Trees. Sites are fairly large, restrooms are newer and well-kept, but there are not many of them. Good hiking trails right from the campground. Although the location is right on the edge of town, it feels remote once you are at camp.

Campground is too congested and campsites are too close together

The campsites are EXTREMELY close together. The roads are all full of potholes. And the campground itself is outside the park.
However, it had the best Ranger Station and gift shop Id seen in all of Joshua tree & the Rangers were super nice!

Well-maintained, with clean picnic tables, clean bathrooms, and easily accessible water spigots throughout. If you’re not used to camping in the desert, keep in mind, the sun is strong and most of the sites have minimal shade. Bring a shade canopy and more water and ice than you think you’ll need. There are occasional strong winds with gusts that will make your tent fly if it’s not staked down (even if you have it weighed down with gear). The ground is hard and rocky, so be sure to bring sturdy stakes (the cheap aluminum ones that came with our tent were too flimsy for the rocky terrain), plus a hammer or mallet to drive them in. The campground has a little gift shop selling touristy trinkets and tshirts. It would be much more useful to have a general store on site with basic provisions like stakes, water jugs, sun protection, etc. Also, the campground signage is poor (they don’t have directional signs to the sites), so be sure to have a map of the campground, or at least a clear idea of how to find your site, especially if arriving in the dark.

We loved the Black Rock Campground! Flush toilets were a major bonus. Our campsite was large with beautiful open spaces. Thank you!

Excellent campground--sites are generally well spaced. Bathrooms are clean and bright. Scenic trailheads are right nearby. CAUTION: Roads are rutted and not well maintained; beware of potholes. Check pitch of sites--a few a VERY unloved.

Loved this campground and the surrounding trails. The bathrooms could use updating. They are quite old and shabby compared to anything in Arizona or Oregon. Otherwise, it was a great place. Staff was very helpful.
