Cleanest pit toilets I ever saw. No tap water.

Site 12, 8/10/23. Next to and downwind of outhouse. A little smelly as a result. Good space for vehicle. Only 1 realistic pad for tent. No real view. Best sites appear to be the walk in sites but sites furthest west would have best views. Outhouse was immaculate! No potable water @CG.

Spot 12 was awesome! We had 2 tents for the 3 of us and it was plenty of space - you could have 3/4 2 person tents at this spot. The picnic table was a great add and the firepit was excellent. The bathrooms were exceptionally clean and our camp spot was actually right next to the bathrooms but there was zero smell. It was excellent. Car space for 1 and you could fit another car next to it if it was small. But the parking lot is not far away at all and is 8 dollars for each extra car per day. The campground was clean and well maintained and has amazing hiking trails right from the campground. Zero cell service - spotty at best. We had Verizon but our friend had AT&T and he had better luck but still nothing great. The drive up the mountain is winding but beautiful. Awesome place to camp. We stayed here to help acclimate for Whitney. Which was an hour drive away but it wasn’t bad. The town of independence doesn’t have much food options (a sub place and gas station) but lone pine about 30 ish mins down the road has more options. Lone pine has pizza, burgers and fast food and some cafes and Mexican options. Would recommend onion valley.

Well maintained had the whole campground with one other site occupied. Great hiking weather and fishing in the nearby lakes.

We reserved site #12 which was long enough for our small RV. Sadly the paved pad was very slanted which made it unsafe. We ended up staying overnight in the trailhead lot. We hate the two day minimum. We only needed one night which then precludes others from reserving that second night. Seems a shameless money grab.

Onion Valley Campground is a nice quiet and small Sierra mountain campground. Most of the campers were in tents, a few in vans or truck campers. Each site's parking area is small, max vehicle length is 25 feet. Restrooms were clean, plenty of TP and hand sanitizer. I think the restrooms were cleaned twice a day. Hiking around the area is good. The main hike of course is up to Kearsarge pass. The hike to Robison lake was nice and quiet. I didn't hike the other trail. If someone is looking for a mountain getaway for a few days this is a nice place to camp.

Beautiful quaint little campground up high in the mountains.
Just water supply at the campground would have made it even more perfect (a 5-star rating)!!
