The facilities were nice, very clean bathrooms and spacious campsite. The walk-in sites were pretty well spaced out but a further walk than I anticipated. The main problem was that mosquitoes were absolutely relentless during our early September stay. Plan to cover every inch of your body and wear a net over your head or you will be eaten alive. We ate our dinner and fled to the beach where it was gorgeous and bug free. Left at dawn and at breakfast elsewhere. Simply not possible to enjoy time at the camp site unless you have a screened tent or something.

Great camping area! The parking lot wasnt far and had plenty of spaces, bathrooms were clean and well stocked, garbages were easy to find, and space for setting up was plentiful. Very pretty area and while some spaces were closer together, they werent awkwardly close.

Definitely needed to do more research before booking the campsite. It is a good 10 minute DRIVE away from any of the dunes or parks when we were expecting to hike from the campsite. I would recommend people camp at the Dunes State Park and not worry with the national park campsites unless its your only option.

We stayed in the walk in campsites and had a great experience! The walk from the parking lot was short, and the campsite was clean & quite private! Fire pit was great with an adjustable metal grill over top. There were restrooms and a water spout located right next to the parking lot. Overall a lovely camping trip, would definitely return!

Despite being represented on the reservation site as open the camp ground was effectively shut down. The office was not open, no maps of dune trails were available, the campground host had left for the season and bathrooms were not open. A park worker told me that they had no gas for the vehicle they use for cleaning and hauling (the mule) nor for the gas operated leaf blowers. I chose not to camp in anarchy and moved on. I never occupied the site and am owed a refund for misrepresentation of the amenities available.

I had a great time camping at Dunewood Campground! Pros: - Proximity to lake, national park, shops, roadside firewood, public transit- Plenty of parking available for the walk-to sites- Showers available- Dishwashing station available- easy n friendly check-in process- interesting wildlife was spotted at campsite - frogs, raccoon, vole, inch worms, fireflies- quiet aside from train- good cell serviceCons: - soooo many mosquitos (visited @ end of June). With bugspray, a campfire going, and long pants, I managed to accumulate 20+ bites in one evening. (I know nothing can/should be done against the mosquitos, but just an FYI)- a lot of mosquitos in the showers- loud train in the nightFor the price and the nature-filled experience, I do recommend the campsite for sure! There are just some things that one should take note/consideration of before booking.

Lovely campground with clean facilities. The problem for me was the traffic noise, especially at night. There are active train tracks less than a mile away as well as truck traffic from the interstate. If that doesn’t bother you then you’ll enjoy the very nice facility.

We reserved one of the walk-in sites (site 67) for two nights last week. The sites themselves seemed well maintained and the bathhouse was honestly one of the cleanest I've ever seen at a campground. Those are the good things.Unfortunately, from our campsite you could hear both the highway and the train all. night. long. Not an ideal camping experience at all. Next time will try the IN Dunes State Park campground instead.

this is a walk in tent site for 1-2 tents . we had to walk down 15 stairs and in between an 1/8th- 1/4th of a mile to site 67 . But it was worth it. it is surrounded by the woods. bring a hammock. bring those mosquito coils & citronella candles & bug spray. We had the bug / coil bracelets too. Once the fire was going & the mosquito coils then mosquitos were not bad but before that they were real bad. The bathrooms & showers were surprisingly great here. the bathroom is very close to the parking area for the walk in sites. the platform area for the tent was large & well maintained. there is a gas station (that has ice cream cones) , restaurant, food truck, general store, & liquor store 1/2 mile away next 2 the old beverly shores train station. the only downside to this campground was there were lots of trains overnight. quick drive to the dunes (both state & national park) from here. We walked along the national park beach at Dunbar Ave & then set up for the afternoon on the beach within the Indiana state park beach. ($12 to get in if not from indiana) & we climbed one of the dunes here . It is also not far to Michigan city for the east pierhead lighthouse and the lighthouse outlet mall.

We saw the camp hosts often. They drove around on their golfcart & walked around often too.

We were unable to access our walk-in campsite and needed to change our site the day we arrived. There was no camp host or ranger to be found anywhere. But when we called recreation.gov to change our site, we were told that we could only make "day-of" changes with a camp host or ranger. We were forwarded to the visitor's center, which of course, was closed for the day. We were stuck with no help at all to change our campsite. We ended up just picking another open site and hoped that no one had booked it.

We had a wonderful time. The site was clean, well-maintained and comfortable. We camped at one of the walk in sites and it was easily accessible from the parking lot. We will definitely stay here again.

This was the most private and peaceful front country campsite I've ever stayed at! We could barely see our neighbors. Very clean bathrooms on site and minutes from the dunes. Loved it, we will be back!

Nice peaceful campground. The later number i.e. 556 onwards is away from the parking lot. Good for people wanting more private space.
