Clean showers and bathrooms, roomy pads, quiet. All I could ask of a campground.

Everyone was friendly. The site, restrooms, & showers were clean. We love this campground because the sites are spaced out & you dont really have close neighbors like you normally do at state parks. The entire campground is completely shaded. Mosquitoes are terrible so pack candles & bug spray!

Sites were very nice. Lots of trees. Semi-private (neighbors not close--see pix of individual sites). Level gravel tent & activity pads with wood borders, trash hooks. Reflectors for backing up at night. Train nearby, but not too loud. Catholic church right outside. Convenient to the Dunes.Restrooms were average for a campground. (Not many shortcuts from further campsites due to trees.) Four large individual shower rooms per area (non gender-specific). Large camper sink.

Awesome campground. 1 mile walk to the beach where you will catch an epic sunset.Got completely destroyed by mosquitos. The worst Ive ever experienced. The second you get out of your car at the site, they are on you. Would love to return in early October.

Campsite is rather "closed in" as it is buried in the woods. But we knew that. Though the national park is new, the campground is from when it was a National Shoreline or something like that. Bathrooms are well attended to and the showers are FREE (try to get a free shower in Yellowstone!) Paved roads and pads.

It has great shad for the campsites. We came after a rain, so the mosquitos were really plentiful. The staff was very friendly. The bathrooms and shower rooms were cleaned daily and there was a sink outside the bathhouse to wash dishes. We thought the beach was closer, but since we had younger kids we had to drive. We would stay there again.

The campground itself was clean and the facilities were nice. The problem was the noise. The campground is too close to a major highway/interstate and the train tracks. Trains ran what seemed liked every 2 hours throughout the night with their whistles blaring. Being that we were in a tent, it goes without saying that we did not get much sleep that night. I would recommend that a warning or notice be placed on this campgrounds site for excessive noise as it was definitely not a peaceful experience. Other than that, I would give the campground 4 stars for its cleanliness and friendly staff.

We spent 3 nights here, Oct. 12-15, 2021. It was quiet. The campground occupancy was probably about half full. It is a very wooded campground, and it rained most of the time we stayed there (cant control to the weather right). So our solar was pretty much non-existent. However the rain made the area smell marvelous. We will definitely be back at some point in the future.

Campers across from me had a noisy generator run all night. Other than that the campsite was very nice.

This was our first experience at the Dunewood campground. The campground is wonderful! The sites are very spacious and spread out. The bathhouse was excellent. Modern, clean, spacious. We loved our experience and highly recommend the Dunewood Campground.

We do have one suggestion. During the time were there, the area was experiencing bad weather including high winds, heavy rains, and tornado watches and warnings. I know that it is the responsibly of each camper to monitor weather conditions and to maintain personal safety. However when camping sometimes you do not have as much internet access as other times.

One night a Park Ranger did drive through the campground with his lights on and made announcements about the bad weather predicted for that night. That was greatly appreciated. We were tent camping and because of the rain we did not spend as much time at the actual campground as we would have during better weather. We are not sure if a Ranger made other announcements at other times that we may have missed. The next day we went hiking and came back to the campground at 3 in the afternoon. Although the campground was sold out most people had left. Even though we had two more nights reserved, we decided to leave early and drive home to Ohio. After we left, we monitored the weather for the campground and it was bad with tornado warnings. We were glad we had decided to leave early. Again, I know everyone needs to be responsible for themselves but perhaps consider sending text messages to campers during times of dangerous weather conditions so people can make informed decisions about staying, leaving or taking extra safety precautions. Thank you for considering.

Overall, the campground was decent. We stayed here at the end of a 4 week trip visiting parks from Maine to Wyoming. This was by far our least favorite park in terms of the overall experience. The camping sites were nice, as were the shower and bathroom facilities. We were excited to see a natural play area in the campground. However, after reading the sign about the area, there was a small print warning about poison ivy in the area. Upon entering the area with my 3-year old to play, the entire entrance was covered in poison ivy creating a gauntlet that kids had to walk through. This left me very upset as I am very sensitive to poison ivy and to create a children's play area and then leave large patches of poison ivy right at the entrance where kids and parents need to walk through it was entirely unacceptable.

Dunewood is a well-kept, wooded campground with clean, modern facilities. The host was very nice. I had made a site reservation online in advance using the advice of a ranger after telling him what kind of site I desired. He did his best, but I guess he assumed I would want to be right next to the bathroom, which was not my preference. I was told that because online reservations are done differently from last minute site reservations, I would have to purchase another whole site in addition in order to get one I wanted. I did that. Luckily, I was able to sell my original spot because the campground filled up. The camp host was kind enough to send an overflow camper over to our new site to make the transaction. The privacy was good, the site was very nice, and the sound of the crickets, etc., was soothing. It also masked the sound of the trains going by during the night until early morning, when crickets stopped their chatter. I was very pleased with the summer experience. I went back, last minute, in the fall. Unfortunately, there were no crickets to mask the sound of the trains that time, so my sleep that night was not so good. The trains are really the only downside at both the state and national campgrounds if you are a sensitive sleeper. Thus, summer is better. I would recommend that a procedure be devised that allows a pre-registered camper who has gone through the online site to make site changes when they arrive if the one pre-selected turns out to be less desirable than a site that is still available. I don't think you should have to pay again for a second site, when all you want to do is trade.
