Beautiful campground. However, the train and traffic noise was over the top. I didnt get any sleep and ended up leaving after one night of a four night planned visit.

We were on site 37, which is 100 yds from the bathrooms and still secluded enough to enjoy our privacy. The facilities are very good and keep in good order by a dedicated staffer. Showers are a bonus and unusual in a National Park. Dunewoods is close to all the beaches, a 10-15 minute drive and only 12 miles from Michigan City for ice cream and brew pub.

Just as expected.

We LOVE this campground! The sites are spread out, wooded, and nicely kept. The bathrooms and showers are clean. The campground is quiet. It is just a few minutes' drive to the beach. We also enjoy hiking the dunes at the Indiana Dunes State Park, but as far as camping goes, the National Park (Dunewood) is far superior!!! I would recommend bringing some heavy duty mosquito repellent though for the campground.

Warm showers, facilities are very well maintained. You need to walk down steps to reach the walk-in campsites. Lake Michigan is nearby, but not necessarily walking distance. The closest shoreline (Lakeside) is rocky without access to the lake. For the best sand/beach experience, drive west of the campground to one of the other beaches in the National Park. The ranger station located inside the visitors bureau on highway 49 is very, very helpful.

The facilities are very well maintained. Great showers. Campers should be made aware that "walk-in" campsites are accessed by going down a long stairway and that the closest beach (Lakeview) is not a sandy beach but a rocky shoreline. Further down the shore, campers will find sand beaches. Some people may be disturbed by the sound of nearby traffic and trains.
