The City of Rocks Campground, within the national reserve, offers 64 individual sites and three group sites without water or electricity. The Smoky Mountain Campground, two miles southwest from the visitors center, offers 38 campsites with water and electricity, along with a dump station.
At the City of Rocks Campground 32 sites are tent-only sites, while 13 of the RV sites are limited to campers up to 18 feet and 19 accommodate RVs up to 28 feet.
We enjoy both campgrounds. City of Rocks is right there with the rocky features of the reserve. There's lots of space between sites and each one is different based on the geology there.
Trails through the park are dirt, so there's dust when it's dry and puddles when it rain. Neither are a cause for major concern. We enjoyed the remoteness of the reserve and the campsites reflect being in a park rather than a resort.
