Quick overnight in one of my favorite places. Lots of poison ivy on the site so keep your eyes open.

Campsite 82D is one of the most beautiful sites in the lower peninsula, and is booked most days of the year it seems. My 1st time in June it was so beautiful and peaceful. My 2nd time in October, the previous campsite reservists cleaned up well, but left their dog's feces in the middle of the campsite which we stepped in. Aside from that the views were just as nice aa the 1st time seeing it and even more peaceful. Overall my new favorite campsite, which is about an hour and a half away from my house.

I was pretty disappointed in the campsite. I know it is rustic, but the hike up & down the hill to the river was horrible. No one could do that unless they were in extremely good shape, more than once or twice a day. There was a ton of poison ivy surrounding the sandy site. Lastly, my site had a lot of trash right in a main walkway that looked like where the firepit was always emptied. Lots of small, sharp pieces of broken bottles in the pile, and here and there in the sand on the site (082D), the site next to us, where my family stayed had a lot of trash left behind. I will not go back to these sites. Also, the site needs much better photos and descriptions of campsites.

This is a wonderful site with great views of the river, forest, and sky and a few hangout zones away from the road and overlooking the dune. One note, it is VERY hard to access the river from this site. I read the previous reviews and thought it would be totally do-able but didn't realize how long/high the dune is. It's very long and very steep! My partner and I are fit and in our early/mid 30s and it was a TRIP so we only went down once a day. The dog also had trouble because of how hot the sand was. Just plan on swimming somewhere else if it's hot :)

I booked site 82 on a whim, had not heard of Ausable at the time. Ive camped in a lot of states all over the US - this was by far one of the best camping spots Ive been. Lovely semi-private beach area down a fairly steep sandy hill. Will gladly make the 400 mile trek to stay here again.Friendly reminder to pack your trash out & not leave it in the fire pit. Even the full McDonalds drive-thru order you may have gotten on the way in ;) 10/10

We camped for 2 days at site 082. The ground is spacious, clean, enough trees and bushes around to position your tent. The view is simply gorgeous! The site is on top though. To get to the river, if you'd like fishing or swimming, you will have to go down very steep slope, and the hardest part, of course, is getting back up! but it's a great workout )) the slopes are covered with fine white sand. The whole experience was great!

Site 82D is up on a bluff with a terrific view of the river and plenty of space to spread out. There is river access but it is down a VERY steep sand slide and the walk back up is a doozy. I wouldn't recommend this spot if you want river access for any purpose, but the view is amazing - we even watched a deer grazing on an island in the middle of the river from above. It is a private spot out of view of other sites, but there is one other site that is accessed by the same road, but past this site. We had a spooky experience in the middle of the night - 1:00 a.m. - when someone drove up to our site, parked, shut off the ignition and then approached our tent with a flashlight. We called out and they mumbled something and left in the direction of the other site. Minutes later, we heard extremely loud dance music blasting from that other site, which certainly destroyed the ambiance. The whole experience was upsetting. Other than that, however, we had a great time - the site is beautiful and spacious and the birds are amazing. I do wish there was a picnic table. Next time I will probably try a site with easier river access. Did not see a ranger.

This campsite is one of my favorites in Michigan. A little hard to find but worth it.

Most beautiful campsite ever! Room for our 17 ft. teardrop and then some. Wonderful view, quiet and secluded.
