My boyfriend and I loved this spot. We had more than enough room for everything we brought. As first time tent campers, we couldn't have asked for a better site! We weren't bothered by animals, and we had a little climb down to the water, obviously not a beach but could be fun for water access in the right weather! The fire ring had a little grill for cooking over the fire, which was super helpful! There's also a little path directly from 52 to the close bathroom. We were far enough from our neighbors on both sides, although site 51 is a little closer than preferred. Nothing crazy, but could get bothersome with the wrong neighbors! The main road down to the boat launch can be a little busy (we stayed on a holiday weekend, so that's expected) & is difficult to squeeze 2 lane traffic so be aware of that depending on the rig you're hauling! Phone service is here is really bad, but the drive to Oscoda isn't much if you need to use your phone. Other wise, site 52 is a beautiful break from the busy every day life!! We will definitely be back.

It was a pretty terrible experience. Another reviewer had already mentioned the fire ring being next to another campsite, which it was. I didnt even have a fire the 2 nights I stayed there. I actually parked my truck to block the other site. That didnt keep the occupants of the site letting their dog into my site whenever I left. Id come back from fishing and there was a dog barking at me, every time. The lady came a couple times to get the dog and her eyes were super dialated on a sunny day. She was definitely on something not legal. There was a loud generator running all the time. No view of the lake. The worst part was listening to people fighting and no way of contacting law enforcement since there isnt any cell service. There was a physical altercation at 7:30am followed by at least 45 minutes of F bombs and mother fer. It didnt seem that close but sound travels across the lake. Glad I didnt bring the kids on this one. One other thing, the slope down to the lake is steep and there is a spring towards the bottom keeping it muddy and slippery all the time. Even without the disrespectful idiots, still the worst site in the area.

Loved everything about AuSable. Large, beautiful site, view of the river, and the history. Hated to leave! Must see Lumberman’s Monument!

We love camping in the AuSable area. It is one of the most beautiful and relaxing areas in the State.
