The road in was horribly unmaintained, which is an issue considering the boat launch at the end. So bad we had to make a makeshift bridge over the potholes my friend could not maneuver around in his Honda Accord. I drove my truck, and even with 8 of ground clearance and moving at 3mph, my air dam was rubbing against the gravel going through the potholes. DNR/Federal needs to do a better job at maintaining these roads. The bathroom down by the launch also needs to be pumped more frequently, i believe they only pump it in the fall or spring, it was so bad you could smell it from the campsite 500ft away if the wind changed. So bad that if you went in it, you would have to change your clothes after because the smell sticks to your clothes for hours. I used to work in areas with unmaintained portajohns in 100 degree heat, those were nothing compared to the nose burning stench of the boat ramp pit toilet at Sawmill point. I got this site due to a cancellation, starting to think they cancelled because they didnt want to get wafting sh*t in their tent all through the night. That said, the site layouts themselves are beautiful, the river access is unmatched, if the road and those pit toilets were fixed it would be a 5/5 star stay.

Everything was great other than waiting for the prior people to clear out of the campsite

Most beautiful place. The river was great for kayaking. So peaceful and quiet at night. Star gazing - incredible! We will be back.

Campsite was clean, easy water access and felt very secluded. The only issue, when we arrived there were a couple at the campsite we reserved. After going to the ranger station just to double check and make sure i had the right campsite, a ranger said they would send someone down to ask them to leave. We went to town to pick up some supplies and when we arrived back at the campsite the couple was still there. When I asked them to leave they packed up quickly and left, however, clearly a ranger did not come to ask them to leave.

Make sure you get there before the local ranger station close. There was someone in our site refusing to leave. There is no after hours number to call if there is an issue. We called the reservation phone number but they were not able to help. We called every number we could find but there was no answer at any. We left messages but only one called back, four days later, and said they could not do anything and contact the local ranger station. The site was great but this really was frustrating.
