Site 41c is still one of the best spots in the world!! Campsite was well maintained by the past campers. That is always nice to see. What happened to the friendly raccoons? As always we were prepared for them to visit each night, every thing put away and covered and locked. Garbage hanging from the tree out of reach and so on. They never showed up. We are hoping that they got tired of island life and left on there own but somehow we doubt it. Im camping on the small island next week and I will be prepared to anti raccoon my food and things because I believe that they will show up.

We love this island. Our family of 4, two adults, 10 and 13 year old kids, have been there two years in an row. The island is large enough to make a good hike and in a great location for fishing. All 4 of us caught keepers this year, 2 pike, 2 bass, 2 walleye. The lumberman's monument is close too.

The big island is the best campsite on the river probably the best one in Michigan. Thats the way I feel, but there are people who do not respect the island. When I arrived there on August 4 th I was very disappointed with the people who had just left. Im sure it was the kids that were there that left behind the cellophane wrappers from juice boxes. I pick up almost 20 from one end of the site to the other. Come on parents those poor kids may never learn how to respect nature!! And the adult that was too lazy to dig a cat hole and left a large pile of poop on the base of a tree just steps from the campsite. NICE JOB! I am sure that came from the group that had just left because the friendly raccoons that visit each night couldnt find any thing at my camp cleaned up the pile of crap. Oh yeah one more thing whoever thinks that the campers that follow you likes the look of thousands of pistachios shells everywhere you are wrong so wrong they are too small to rake up so you just have to walk through them. You should be banned from camping. Try a wastebasket or the fire pit. I hope you are lucky enough to get the chance to visit next year an see what all the others that do not trash the place have to look at the whole time they are there. Another great job from someone who has no respect for nature and the great number of people who share that island and do respect it!!Sorry to be so harsh on a few people because most of you islanders do love and respect that small place of paradise.

This beautiful space was worth paddling in all of our supplies for 8 days of secluded nature time with the family. The swimming, fishing and exploring were wonderful.

Incredible site. Beautiful, isolated, with lovely hardwood trees on east coast of this island. A short trail leads to west coast of island for watching sunset. Would live on this island permanently if I could.

Great experience only thing I would suggest is better description of Huron/Manistee campsite 41c. When you paddle in there is another site on the south end of the island that people have begun to use because there is not mention that the marked site is on the east side.

The boy scouts that were on our expedition, witnessed bald eagles, otters, ducks, swans, geese, A10 wart hogs and so many other plants and animals, birds... that they had not seen before. We attempt to complete the same trek every other year. Thanks for making it so easy.

We always enjoy our time on the River; the campsite was clean and ready for us upon arrival; we left it the same way. Thanks to all who do their part! We just enjoy sitting back, reading and watching the loons and ducks float by.

Amazing site on the island! True nature with amazing views. More catipillars that you can count though. The kayak ride in offers some of the best views I've ever seen in Michigan. Cannot wait to make this a yearly tradition.

Great campsite on the big island on Cooke pond on the Au Sable River in the shadow of the Lumberman's Monument, flat and on high ground very private except for a couple of racoons trying to take our food they didn't like that it was locked up. Great fishing and sites. The down side, nothing to do with the site. It's about other campers not properly disposing of human waste (please dig a latrine or bring a portable toilet like we do) don't use the hiking paths around the camp site and leave your business for others to find.
