Michigan’s Au Sable river is the gem of the north. On the Alcona Pond, Campsite 4D is a good one. The wooden “steps” that are supposed to facilitate canoe landings actually are in the way of a good canoe landing. Remove them, do not replace them. The campground is nice, the fire ring was the best that we found on the river. Further upstream were fire rings that were unnecessarily heavy, expensive, and complex. Two concentric,, steel fire rings with concrete in between them, is not the best design by a long ways. A ring of rocks would be better, and cheaper.

Quiet spot, quite secluded but you can still hear road traffic. River road is close and full of amenities and attractions as well as oscoda and the lakeside being only a 30 minutes drive. Some trash from other campers and long ago campers but nothing too unsightly.

Fun weekend at site 004. The river access was great, particularily if you wanted to bring a kayak or canoe. Definetly see more people though than other sites. 5 or 6 cars came down to turn around in our site since the two track ends there. Lots of canoes and kayaks and people drifting fishing in front of the campsite. Loggers on the two track weren't too disruptive. Bummed that my kids had to listen to some folks dropping f bombs and blasting heavy metal on the river right in front of our site fishing but it is what it is. Overall great time.

This was not a great site. We have camped at other sites and have loved it, but this one had no shade and no tree canopies to help protect from rain. The river access was ok, but far away from the firepit

This is a phenomenal spot. Site is long & skinny, providing lots of river frontage. A couple things to note:- River can create a funnel effect with the wind, directing it down the rivers path snd directly into your camp. Bring stakes. - There is a privy path off of camp, with a couple semi-permanent camp latrines set up. - Camping mid-May, there was a LOT of fallen wood. We were not hurting for firewood. - That terrifying noise you hear is a bullfrog.

Very beautiful location with an excellent view of the sun setting. I saw many birds including green herons, bald eagles, trumpeter swans, and kingfishers. The songs of the indigo buntings, whip-poor-wills, and white throated sparrows are enchanting. The only downside is that there was a lot of goose poop but oh well, it's nature!

Great drive-in site! Super easy to find and access, but lots of privacy. Site is mostly sunny and wide open with a small set of stairs to the river. Beautiful river views, great stargazing and a well-kept site. Only (very minor) complaint is the fire ring is so high! You have to build your fire quite high to be able to see and sit around it.

It was awesome! We rented site 4D on the Au Sable river and we had a blast. It was spacious and had a nice stairway (3-4 steps) to access the river literally right by your tent. Was far from other campers and you had a lot of privacy. Was able to fish and catch and release a variety of fish (red tail sucker, trout, bass). Was able to swim around and enjoy the waters. There is a little Kayak rental place down the road that had essential camping stuff that is needed for last minute. They have showers and bathrooms there too (might have to pay to use). Also, if you needed more stuff there is a little town about 5 mins away called Glennie. They have gas stations, a grocery store, and a liquor store there. Convenient for us cause we are from the Macomb County area. Was only a 2.5hr drive. We already booked our 2nd and 3rd camping trip here!

Not detailed directions and the sight did not link with what the webpage said. Then we get lost but they close at 5pm. Really? So middle of no where rustic camping and no way to contact office. And than to top it off I lost out 30$ for my sight because they couldn't refund me from their own system? So I have to contact a website that takes 40 mins to wait on hold. So all in all it is not worth it to wait hours on hold for 20$ but that money was just taken and goes in their pocket and I didn't even get to enjoy camping. Instead got lost and had to find a different camp site. My Friday was ruined I had to pay for another campsite so I spent 70$ for 2 nights of camping because you guys just took 30$ and have no proper directions to the site. WILL NEVER GO THROUGH THIS PLACE EVER AGAIN!!!!

Nice campsite. Have stayed here a couple times. Steps at River is a nice touch, but new fire ring sucks! Ring is way to deep. Almost fall in trying to light the fire, can't even see the flames or coals of the fire because it's so deep. Only way to see the fire is to put a cord of wood in the ring, and location of ring is in the wrong spot. Fire ring should be centered on the campsite, not down at the end in all the poison ivy

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
