Fantastic stay at Trumbull Lake campground. Very quiet, great size sites. Easy access to trails, and the restaurant at Virginia Lakes resort was excellent.

We totally enjoyed our stay at Trumbull Lake. We've been coming here for 15 plus years now and couldn't be happier. One thing needs to be addressed though. The water system needs to be overhauled as the color of the water is rusty red and we were told to let it run until it looked clear. Well, not sure it was ever clear. Be sure to bring a water filter for your RV or something for drinking water if you're tent camping. Campground host Kimo is awesome. Very likeable and very helpful. He cleans the restrooms on a regular basis and there's always enough toilet paper.Enjoy!

Very quiet campground at 9,000 ft. with sufficient room between campsites. Weather was way cooler compared to the desert below. A small store and boat rental near by. A lot of people fishing in the Virginia lakes. Easy access to High Sierra trails. Bridgeport and Lee Vining relatively close. I would like to go there again!
The camp host was Great! Really on top of things.

Campgrounds "at the end of the road" always have appeal, and when added to the scenic beauty of the eastern Sierra and a friendly lake, this location is a real winner. There were two additional things that made this a standout, however. First, there was just a little bit of infrastructure in the area. The Virginia Lakes Resort is somewhere one could get ice, a few other camping necessities, and a really good burger (or breakfast, I suppose, though we didn't try that). Good for those situations where cooking is just too much. The resort has boats to rent and a small launch area available for your own boat (for a $5 fee) on Virginia Lake, a little ways downvalley and across the road from Trumbull Lake. Also nearby is the Virginia Lakes pack station, which provides a number of trail rides into the adjacent Hoover Wilderness. Second, and most important, is that this year we had the most marvelous campground host. Kimo took obvious pleasure in making sure the campground was in order -- so much so that we immediately noticed that the pit toilets were the cleanest we could recall. He also gently (unless a firmer had was called for) made sure that the rules were adhered to. Particularly tough when there are forest-wide bans on campfires for instance. Overall, someplace to which we'd happily return.
