Much to do. Hiking, biking, boating. However, the roads in park are in sad need of repair. Park itself was nice.

Awesome site. My neighbor ran a generator from 8am to 7pm for 4 days. When checking the reqs it was legal. That was a deal breaker. I wont be back.

Great location, specious & roomy sites. The road was full of potholes that look like they are intentionally not repaired, and some are quite severe. Host was not friendly. Loved the little beach access.

Great site, close to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and boat tour.

Loved our stay here the site and facilities were immaculate. The view was amazing. Had such a great time

The roads in and throughout the campground were horrible. So many very large potholes you cant avoid with any size rig. The sites are overgrown and scratch even a small rig. To pay for a boondocking site with this type of non maintenance is a crime.

We made a two night reservation for tent camping - while visiting Pictured Rocks. Our plans changed, so we ended up staying only one night. In the weeks prior to our stay, received a number of emails asking of we wanted to change/modify the reservation, and although I tried doing so, the website would not allow changing the reservation. The campground host indicated that this feature does not work on the website, so why does recreation.gov send out these emails?Other comments:a) restrooms nice!b) liked the parking area by the beach, where we sat to look at the starsc) Some road noise was heard in the morning, but probably not as much as at the city campground down the roadd) the entry road, especially, was full of potholes - aggravating, but ensures slow driving speedse) would stay there againf) Munising has few breakfast restaurants - Earl E. Byrds was great!g) enjoyed the 'spray' boat tour of Pictured Rocks

Really enjoyed this campground, it is conveniently located and the sites are well spaced with plenty of trees between you and your neighbours so it feels secluded. The vault toilets are regularly cleaned, there are no showers but we went to the nearby Tourist Campground and paid to use theirs, which had nice facilities but costs more and lacks any trees for privacy so Id still prefer to stay at Bay Furnace for my next trip! Heaps to do around Munising and some nice hikes, will definitely go back.

Beautiful, quiet campground. Easy walk to the beach. Enjoyed watching the moon rise over the lake.

The campground was beautiful. Large lots, plenty of mature trees, very clean bathrooms and helpful hosts

Our site was very nice. The presence of the dump and fill was unusual for a National Forest campground and quite welcome. The campground road could use some maintenance. Lots of potholes to dodge. The actual Bay Furnace was a surprise and a real treat. Plus, who can argue with being right on Lake Superior? We camped at Bay Furnace as a jumping off point for taking a Pictured Rocks cruise. We would camp at Bay Furnace again.

Good location, nice sites. No grass means probably be some mud. Worst part was the noise from the generators all day.
@RachaelB875501 · Camped on Sep 2, 2025 at Campsite #38
The area is beautiful, the water is beautiful, the campsites are wooded and not to close together. My only "complaint" was that the site we chose was almost someone's backyard.

Excellent views, nice and quiet with clean facikities and friendly staff! Absolutely would not hesitate to stay again!

Loved the large camp site, the furnace ruins, the beach access. It was great!

Definitely be back. Quiet and clean. Not to mention beautiful!
@NathanP3424100 · Camped on Aug 24, 2025 at Campsite #37
The campground was great! Just be prepared for vault toilets and no power hook ups. If you have a camper though, they have a filling and dumping station so, you should be very cozy. Beautiful campground, amazing beach, fantastic rock hunting.
@RobertM1452522 · Camped on Aug 22, 2025 at Campsite #38
Nice spot on the water. Easy to bike around- close to Munising.
@JenniferK63850 · Camped on Aug 20, 2025 at Campsite #13
We love this campground. Sites are not close together. Beautiful Lake Superior beach where you can see the sunrise. You do need some kind of water shoes when you go in the water as it does have a rocky bottom. Close to Munising and Pictured Rocks.

The potholes going into the campground are terrible. Also the cancellation fees are unreasonable. I was charged 18 dollars for cancelling a one night stay. We were going to stay a 2nd night but didnt due to the excessive potholes.
@JeffM1730911 · Camped on Aug 13, 2025 at Campsite #13
Overall the campground is nice, private with some very good lake front sites. The only negative is the road going in and out is in dire need of repair! There are so many potholes, several of which are quite large that you can only drive with a camper at 5 mph max. We had site #13 which is heavily tree covered but a little narrow for a TT due all the trees.
@RhondaBEB27F6F · Camped on Aug 13, 2025 at Campsite #41
The campsites at Bay Furnace were nice and private and the bathrooms were clean. However, the road in and out of the campground was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!! Completely Filled with potholes and we dreaded going in and out of the campground. If this was our first experience with a rec.gov campground it would definitely be our last. This was the 3rd rec.gov campground we stayed at in Michigan and thank goodness it was the last. The road condition is inexcusable and can cause damage to both tow vehicles and campers. Quite honestly, this campground should be closed until the road is repaired.

Enterance road and road around the campsites all potholes.... Generators running all day and nite, hosts have a hard time enforcing quite time..... Not like I had remebered in the past.

This is a great site! The bathrooms were well maintained, the sites were nice and private, and there is so much to do in the area! My highlight was looking for yooperlites on the beach.

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
