We had a lovely time at the cabin! we enjoyed doing some snowshoeing and exploring around the area.

Deer hair and blood around the campfire pit gave me the creeps, so we left to go back home. The cabin was tidy, but it was unsettling to stay the night.

Cabin is easy to get to and is daily near the town of Lincoln. Very interesting cabin. Lots of logging going on in the general area so noisy during the day. Cabin is very very rustic.

A truly wonderful place to get away! No cell service, no traffic noise, just the sound of the wind blowing through the trees.

Very comfortable bed! Like the separate kitchen area. The well water has a lot of "discoloration" (maybe iron?).Love the firepit and small stream. Was great family vacation time.

Clean and as expected. I loved the cabin. If you camp, this is like camping with a whole lot of security and a nice kitchen area. Stove was great even in July. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants some time alone.

My wife and I had the most relaxing & enjoyable visit to the cabin last week. Having an outdoor firepit and indoor wood burning fireplace was wonderful. We got to cook over the fire outside then bring dinner inside to eat by the fire. The propane lanterns are such a cool reminder of the past (minus the propane of course). But it still felt very pioneer day to use the mantles. We appreciated the lack of cell service. DIdn't reach for the phone except for a few photos. It is wonderful to disconnect once in a while. The woodshed is fully stocked and still standing thanks to the efforts of the forest service. Even the local crew swung by to test the well water while we were there. It was great having the window shutters because it helped hold in the heat overnight. The double bed mattress in the front room was comfortable and per the usual we had our own sheets, pillows, and blankets. A big plus that the kitchen has a giant pot so we could heat water on the wood stove overnight. Kept the air from getting too dry.We will be back for sure!

Well stocked, maintained and clean cabin. Entry door threshold plate is loose so you have to force the door open. Water from the hand pump was slightly colored, recommend you bring your own water when staying. The cabin had a new splitting maul that worked out well. Only saw one mouse during our time there.

No issues driving in snow in mid November. Cabin and outhouse were clean and well stocked. Compared to other cabins I have rented, this one has all the amenities (propane stove, lights, dry sink set up, water pump) and is a short drive from Lincoln so is less of an adventure but makes the time there more relaxing. Would recommend as a getaway any time of the year.

Nice place, and large-ish cabin with good sized and comfortable beds. The pump is junk: we had to get water from the park in Lincoln. Was nice to have plenty of screened windows for air flow, though heat from the stove in the kitchen area tends to move right into the rest of the cabin.People at the private cabin only 200 yards away were shooting right by it, making us fairly nervous, especially since when I then drove by there to see what was going on there were alcoholic beverages being consumed while shooting.

Very nice locations. Someone used the plastic bucket for coals and melted it. Then they threw it in the bushes. So no mopping of the floor. We didn't use the lights or stove (oven was especially dirty inside). We didn't see any mice but there were some droppings.
We would definitely stay again.

We walked into cabin right after about 15" of new snow. It would have been a great experience if not for the people who stayed their prior to us. There were beer cans left, and spent ammunition all over (of which we picked up). Then the most disturbing part was them not using the outhouse conveniently located about 15 steps away. This pretty much ruined the experience of clean, pure snowfall all around! Because of the snow we had limited access, tried to snow shoe but it was even too deep to get far - but it was a lovely blue bird day.

Fantastic location. Great skiing out the backdoor, just head east. Plenty of Firewood. Well stocked but could use topping off. Cabin wish list, forks (only one) some soup bowls and a decent sharp knife.

Great spot, short walk from parking area and only an hour from Helena! 1.5 miles from Hwy 200 to the cabin parking area and another 500' from the parking area to hike to the cabin gate. Sled located at the cabin for hauling. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE TO CABIN IN WINTER!!! Lots of cabin log entries that highlight vehicles getting stuck/stranded on the jeep track road leading to the cabin, so please get out and Walk. Tight cabin located near a small stream with good dark skies for star, planet and celestial observers. Cabin is well equipped with cooking pots, pans and a propane stove. I would recommend bringing the following items: silverware (very few forks onsite), matches, toilet paper, hot pads - if cooking on the wood stove and LED lanters/headlamps for lighting inside cabin. Propane lanterns put out almost no light in the kitchen or back bedroom. Large shudders keep out lots of light, open during the day and close em' at night! The splitting maul in the woodshed is about to lose it's handle. There is a Pulaski that works as well for backup. The water coming out of the pump was brackish but potable. Private road about 500 yards past cabin parking area so not much public land access other than hiking East of cabin, out past the woodshed. There are a few jeep track roads to hike along. Good amount of snow on the ground during our stay. Saw lots of tracks a few birds, squirrels and other critters out n about. Used both the back bedrooms fireplace and the main wood stove..it gets HOT. Best to build up a fire and then stock the wood stove and shut the door...back fireplace is open so it burns hot but does not keep heat in the bedrooms all that well. Fun spot, hope to be back and spend more time hiking around next time. Ciao.

Hands down the absolute best experience ever. We spent a week at the cabin and could not have asked for a better “off grid” vacation. It was SO nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. We can’t wait to come back next year.

We enjoyed our stay at Cummins Cabin. If anybody has a future reservation and has a couple extra bucks and the time to go to a thrift store, the cabin could use some additional stuff for the kitchen. I'm sure future users would appreciate it. I went to the thrift store in Lincoln to try and find some things - but they're only open on Fridays. The cabin needs: silverware (especially forks and spoons), small serrated knives, can opener, mixing bowl, coffee cups, drinking glasses, wine opener, colander, plastic dish pan. Sticky fly paper would also be great to take up there. Thanks to the folks who help make these cabins available. Peace out.

This was our first time to Cummings Cabin and we loved it! A little bit of a learning curve with the propane lights--one near the wood stove was jammed into the on position when we arrived, and we could not close it, so just made sure to light it right away when we turned on the propane from the outside to the cabin. Also, didn't see any more spare mantels, but there were enough lights with working ones for our uses--plus we brought our own lanterns too, just in case. This was only our second time staying at a 'fancier' forest cabin (with more than just a wood stove), was pretty fun to be able to cook on and bake in the propane oven. Back room stayed warm enough with just the wood stove from the middle room. Nice to have the double beds too, and the sink with the collection buckets. We put up our food in a sealed plastic bin when not cooking/eating and did not have any mouse issues. We did make it up the last 1/4 mile in an AWD truck but in hindsight, would probably recommend parking at the pull out at the junction and hauling gear in a sled (did not see one at the cabin so might want to bring your own, but maybe we didn't look good enough). Plenty of wood to split in the shed and the axe was nice and sharp. Definitely some of the funniest guest book entries I've seen at a USFS cabin. We'll be back!

Great place to stay. Two large beds and one single bed. Three rooms and two fireplaces with propane lighting and stove. Kitchen with sink, dish rack, and some pots, pans, silverware, and utensils. Covered porch and an outhouse located nearby. Four wheel drive is a must in the winter for the last 1/4 mile to the cabin. Also he ready to have to ski/walk in. Cross county skiing available from the front door step.

The main dirt road is plowed, the secondary road appears to be plowed by a private individual, and the road for the last 1/8 of a mile to the cabin is not plowed. Easy to get to though in the winter. Crosby county ski and snow shoe trail nearby. There appears to be a nice outdoor fire pit and seating area but was unable to use in the winter. Cabin stays warm with the wood stove. Some kitchen utensils. Propane stove and lighting makes for a great experience.
