Once again my stay at Pine Springs was great. Campsite 20 was really nice central location. It was clean. Having the ability to wash dishes and having a toilet there is very helpful.

Campgrounds and campsite were as expected - online information was accurate and up to date. Due to the terrain and sun exposure that this area has, it would be wise to bring a sunshade / tarp to use as cover during the day (we visited in late May). Hike to the Peak was awesome! Great trail conditions and clearly marked. Visitor center was informative and the gift shop adequately stocked (a/c may have been not working properly at the time, but still a reprieve from the heat!) If we had planned more time, we would have visited Carlsbad Caverns since it is so close. Would definitely consider a return visit to explore the area more in the fall or springtime.

Great location near main trailhead

This site was very nice, spacious, and had beautiful views in every direction. Even though you are close to a park road that takes visitors to the main trailhead, it wasn't as noisy as I thought it would be. This site would've been 5 stars if it had adequate shade. One tree near the tent pad and table is trying but not there yet.

Awesome location with tent sites that are well spaced and nestled in small trees and shrubs. We camped two nights in December and the tent pad was well established and drained great when it rained one night. The bathroom facilities with electricity were just a short walk and the pit toilet at the end was clean (about the same distance to both). This site was large enough for our two tents and we could see the car from the tents. There is no shade at the picnic table and tents but a little recess until the tree beside the picnic table was shaded. Even though the road is close to this site, the road noise was not an issue.

Great place

There are 20 tent sites in the campground and all are good as far as sight lines and surroundings. Some have a little walk in required from car to site. Toward the back between sites 8 and 15 are close to the group site which could get a little noisy. Overall this is a great campground. What pushes it to 5 stars is the camp host. Super friendly and helpful. They do rotate out but the time we were there was a couple that were the best.

The Pine Springs campground was very clean and orderly, with attentive and friendly camp hosts helping visitors find their campgrounds or those who needed special accommodations. This isn't really the kind of place you come to hang out in camp all day. The sites are fairly small, with very specific tent pads and sand/gravel ground cover. You come here to hike the amazing trails all day and come back for dinner and bed. For that, these are perfect.

The only issue that came up was that our group came down from backpacking early due to a knee injury. We were able to quickly reserve the last available tent campsite via smart phone simply enough. However, our injured hiker decided to get a better night's sleep in the car rather than squeezing their tent onto the pad with the rest of us. This is apparently against the rules as he was woken up by the camp host making their rounds and told there was no sleeping in vehicles, else a ranger could issue a fine. This rule does make sense to ensure small RVs and rooftop tent campers don't take over, but it would be good to at least have some leniency for a legitimate safety situation such as ours.
