Great campground with sites spaced well and parking available for each site. Restrooms were clean and close. Trailhead to many great trails just a short walk away. As stated in the park information it was quite windy when we camped in early February but not impossible to navigate or tolerate.

This is for Campsite #2 - very close between the car and the tent site, so it was a great spot for staging our backpack trip. Other sites require quite a walk-in distance, so make sure you check. The tent pad is pretty stony, needed a rock to pound stakes in, but otherwise nice and level. Beautiful view of sunrise and sunset. The water locations in the tent area were all shut off - maybe for the season? We were there in December. However, we found the water at the main bathroom in the RV area. A generator was running non-stop - I think to keep the water pump going? It lessened the enjoyment of the experience, but better to have water than not!

The park center and tent camping area were immaculate and great places to camp. Vistas scenic. Bathrooms well maintained (thank you!). As we were a day late due to a tire problem that caused us to have to divert to Roswell when Carlsbad didn't have any tires to fit our rims, we do appreciate that you held our prepaid reservation for the duration of our expected stay. Great park....

Had a good stay, stayed two nights at two different sites and hiked Guadalupe Peak and Devil's Hall. Definitely start the summit early, and try an find a site with a good tree, it can be a life saver. Please note you cannot stake or tie tents down, we didn't know this before we got there and had issues with the gusts trying to blow away our tent so we couldn't set up until we intended to stay in the tent for the night.

The Devil's Hall hike is not to be missed.

Great place to be in the park and set up camp. Spaces are limited so you must be diligent in planning ahead. Facilities are modest to minimalist so come prepared. Wind can be an issue if your gear is not made for it or if you fail to completely set up, stake out, and tie down. Due to wind, dust is an issue. But hey, you're camping!

The campground hosts were extremely rude and disrespectful to us as we arrived after dark to our reserved, paid-for site when they demanded that we setup a tent on our reserved site, otherwise we would have to leave. Since my wife and I flew from Oregon to Texas, we did not bring a tent, but were planning to sleep in the rental car in sleeping bags. Apparently, it is mandatory to have a tent setup on your site or else you will be forced to leave the campground, even if you paid for a reservation and a park pass. I double checked the Reservation.gov site and did not see anywhere that a tent is mandatory. The campground hosts also kicked out 2 other campers on the same night for others without a tent on their site. We were left without any place to go for the night after it was late, dark, and over 55 miles from the closest city. The host didn't even offer any suggestions for places we might camp without a tent. We had to drive an hour to Carlsbad, NM for the night, pay for a hotel, and then drive an hour back in the morning to hike in the park for the day. This was the worst experience with volunteer campground hosts in my 30+ years of camping experience. I have never been asked to leave a site nor had any trouble with a host, and I have never heard of a host forcing a camper to leave for simply not having a tent setup. We were parked in our designated campsite parking spot and were getting ready for the night without bothering anyone else. If there truly is a campground policy to have a tent displayed on your site, the Recreation.gov website needs to be amended to state this policy. We have reported this negative experience with the campground hosts and are requesting a full refund.
