Immaculate campground and excellent amenities. Spectacular views of the sunset over the west ridge of McKittrick. No bugs either, and dead silent. Scenic drive to the campground as well!

Very remote location with a lack of personnel. The letter on the window of the ranger station informed park visitors of dog canyon being closed. due to water issues . It was not made clear if any of the water stations provided potable or non potable water overall I did not feel secure at this location

Dog Canyon is pretty remote for car camping in the lower 48 states. We saw mule deer as usual, but this time we also saw a herd of wild goats on our 13-mile loop hike, two wild pigs. Very windy the first two nights there, and then the 3rd night of our full week there, the wind settled down at about midnight. But know that it does get windy. There were only a handful of people until a larger group came from Texas Tech. With only 1 male and 1 female toilet and sink in the campground, and no showers, you have to sponge bathe if you want to be there for a week. Campers need to be aware that that should not be done just before it gets dark or first thing in the morning...just not fair to tie up the bathroom at high-traffic times of day. Do not expect to see a ranger during your stay, and there was no campground host either. Be self-sufficient in every way. But we love it here and will keep coming back year after year.

We had a great time at Dog Canyon! Hiked the nature trail close to camp. Also, hiked up to lost peak as well as to the tejas trail/mckittrick trail junction. All tent sites were full except for one. Only complaint was that the tent sites were a little close to each other. Lets just say we made some new friends and it was a lot of fun! No cell service at all. Wifi was a short walk to the ranger station/office. Bathrooms were clean with flushable toilets.

Great, quiet spot close to McKittrick Canyon, Lost Mountain, Sitting Bull Falls

Loved the isolation, hiked way up and felt the power of the breeze naturally!

Well-marked route from White's city on Hwy 62. Great tent site and access to restroom and water spigot for washing with trash dumpster nearby. Trail heads are short distance from campsite. Great quiet area!

The campsite is absolutely lovely! The host is great and the facilities were very clean. Easy to access hiking trails from the campground as well. The only thing to be aware of is how far it is. It’s definitely remote and they are not joking about making sure to have enough gas and supplies. Also make sure to put in the campground itself on your gps to get the more accurate estimation on time. I would also recommend getting in before dark if you can, as the view on the way to the campground is gorgeous!
