The campsite was well kept, clean, and the location very remote and peaceful , totally worth it. Clean restrooms with water. We camped on first weekend of February and winds were super strong, nonstop throughout the night; a pop-up tent was definitely not a good choice. Beautiful scenery throughout the hike, cant wait for spring to come back!

The national lands are beautiful, the trail I went on was clearly marked. The campground was nice (what I expect with national campgroundsthey dont have many amenities but the bathroom with flush toilet was clean and warm!). The park rangers were extremely nice and helpful. It was just a beautiful and peaceful place to stay and Id love to go back. The only regret I have is that the electric outlet outside the park office didnt work. I would have loved to use that for my kettle. But otherwise it was superb.

I cancelled based on a weather forecast of 60-70 mile per hour sustained winds with gusts to 100. I talked with the rangers after the wind storm passed and they commented that cancelling was a proper decision.

If you want no one contacting you, then this is the place for you. Its like the park service forgot this place existed. I only saw trail staff early in the morning and they disappeared after that. Really only two trails from this park and a "nature" trail. Wouldnt recommend more than two nights here. Also, the wifi (the only means of emergency communication) works sporadically. Something is wrong with their configuration where it won't negotiate a proper IP address

Very quiet compared to Pine Springs side. I was the only RV over a February weekend. A couple cars in tent camping. Easy to hike to great western views.

Super quiet and peaceful, great to see the big tooth maples away from the crowds! When hiking we felt like we were the only people in the whole park.

Nice campground. Make sure to have a full tank of gas before you head up the road to this location. No services once you leave the highway. There is internet available at the ranger station porch.

Dog Canyon is a wonderful small campground with access to several hiking trails wit great natural diversity and varying degrees of challenge. The camp wifi was a big plus since cell coverage is miles away. The drive on Guadalupe rim road is spectacular. Just be aware that just about any other amenity is a 2 hour drive away!

Very remote, quiet campground, (4 RV sites) no cell service, but an unexpected surprise WiFi courtesy of the NPS!

We absolutely loved it . Magnificent and solitude. There should be a better way for people to get the reservations for when people dont show up . Maybe like half reserved and the other half not. Overall amazing.

Dog canyon campground gives you the real remote backcountry camping experience. Amazingly beautiful setting, flush toilets and water. Hiking options are for all levels and the 13 mile hike we went on was just stunning. Its super quiet at night with a secure feeling. The ranger and host were both out of their way helpful and knowledgeable. One of the best campsite experiences weve had in 10 months of travelling.

RV camping limited to 4 places in a gravel car park also used by hikers. We had to use all our leveling blocks to get our class B level. The park this side is much quieter and the hiking is good.... needs a decent loop trail though.

This place is one of the best spots weve ever camped at!! Quiet, secluded, and great access to trails! The views from the campground are beautiful, and youre surrounded by nature; we saw countless deer, turkeys, and birds. We fully recommend a stay here!

Excellent campground and great experience. Jeffrey the camp host was fantastic, and the Ranger too. Only complaint...it's such a shame that well-behaved dogs aren't allowed on trails.

Somehow I, as a visitor, lucked out being the lone camper at Dog Canyon that evening. Enjoyed a short wilderness hike, an amazingly quiet and dark (lotsa stars) evening, and next morning watched a stag and his seven does wander about quite closely to my site. Quite the humbling experience, actually. In the morning I had a very nice chat with one of the rangers who agrees with me that this is quite a special place. It is worth the long drive from the main Visitor's Center for the Park.

This was not a campground. It was a small parking lot to park 4 trailers or RVs right next to each other. A picnic table was provided at the end of each parking place. The $20 fee was ridiculous. I stayed in some big private camping spots at State Parks in New Mexico for $10. I recommend building a real campground at Dog Canyon. I paid for 3 nights but left after 2 and moved to a nice New Mexico State Park.
