Beautiful spot thats way off the beaten track but worth the drive if you are looking for solitude. Great trail starting at the campground. Only drawback was the RV sites, which are basically just a parking area with no privacy, but we ended up moving to the parking area for the tent sites because nobody was there. Would definitely go back.

Beautiful scenic remote location! Very peaceful and quiet! Great hikes from campground. Family of mule deer live in the campground!

The site was remote and a little tough to get to with my trailer. Hikes were challenging and beautiful. Facilities were working well. No ranger present so I wasn't able to get my NP Stamp for the area. Overall a very nice experience.

Beautiful, quiet setting. Plenty of options for activities in the area (hiking, driving, birding, etc.) Small RV sites are nice as they keep out the overbearing domineering types. Bathrooms were always clean, wifi signal always available at the ranger station. I hope to return sometime.

Dog Canyon is a beautiful, very isolated campground on the North edge of the national park. There are only 4 RV sites, for rather small RVs, and about 10 very nice tent sites, for which you need to park the car on the neighboring parking lot. The surroundings of the campground are gorgeous! Keep in mind that hiking trails from the campground are rather long and steep up. There is a short nature trail mostly on flat terrain. The night sky is breathtaking!

Nice campground. Heated restrooms. WiFi at visitor center. Love all the mule deer in camp. Tight quarters for RVers but it was still great.

Campground was nice and peaceful. The bathrooms were not cleaned for multiple days of our stay. They were out of toilet paper for 2 of the 5 days and the trash cans were overflowing.

Very nice, clean and well-maintained campground. But please, keep in mind that it is 2+ hours drive from the "main" part of Guadalupe Mountains park. Another alternative would be 7hrs hiking trail :)

Beautiful, secluded camping area. The drive in is on a winding, narrow road - with beautiful views.

We parked our 15-foot trailer in RV site A for five nights. The campground host, Jeff, provided a friendly welcome and occasional check-ins to see how we were faring. The sites themselves are unremarkable, but the views of the surrounding canyon walls and hills more than compensate as do the visits of the deer to the horse troughs behind our site each evening. We enjoyed hiking the Tejas trail up to Lost Peak as well as a drive up the nearby rim road in the National Forest. We also appreciated the WiFi availability at the ranger station which allowed us to keep in contact with our family.

Camping at Dog Canyon campground was one of the most magical camping experiences I have ever had. First, its over an hour and a half drive from the nearest town (and gas station), so yes, it is remote, but thats part of the adventure. You need to plan ahead, realizing that what you have along with you is it! The drive to the campground is gorgeous, with vast stretches of New Mexico desert stretching for miles in all directions. Once there, youll find the campground is kept very clean, offers stunning hiking trails, and even though it is so remote, has luxuries like heated bathrooms, running water, and Wi-Fi at the rangers home! Each morning we watched the sun rise over the towering canyon walls, hiked by day, and watched the moon rise and stars come out at night. A wonderful, rejuvenating week!

A beautiful peaceful place to enjoy nature including the nice size herd of deer to say good morning to. Seven was a life saver filing my van tire with air. He directed me down the mountain to Forrest tire where I got it fixed and back on the road in an hour. He also directed me to the Gila Wilderness that was spectacular. Jeffrey was so kind, and professionally handled the situation when my spot was occupied upon arrival. I will recommend this Dog Canyon to all my fellow wanderers!

Dog Canyon is a small, unique campground in a beautiful setting. There are only 4 RV sites and the length of the sites is accurate on the website. Don't bring an RV or trailer unless you are sure it fits into the dimensions described on the reservation information. The campground is approximately 55 miles off of the main highway so I would definitely recommend staying for at least two nights. The tent area is treed but the sites are not private. Whether you stay in a tent or in an RV, I would only recommend coming to this campground if you want to enjoy quiet, night skies and the beautiful setting. Both the tent and RV areas are small so be considerate of your neighbors. There are a few trailheads out of Dog Canyon but if you are going to do any extended hikes from this area you should be prepared with a good map - not the one in the park brochure - and compass. The staff here are very nice and will help you in any way possible. The volunteer at the ranger station was extremely personable and knowledgeable. We got a restaurant recommendation from one of the maintenance staff for a barbecue restaurant along the route to our next destination in a small community named Cloudcroft. The barbecue was amazing.

The campground is so far out of the way, so secluded, that even though it was full on the weekend, it seemed very quiet and calm. It's fairly sheltered from the winds that can kick up, and offers beautiful sunrises and sets. My only wish would be for more hiking trails leading out of the camp.
