My husband and I have a small travel trailer and we drove out there not the best road for an RV lots of cattle guards that are sinking it is a 60 mile trip one way . The desolation and vastness was beautiful . We were very underwhelmed with the sites 5 of them all lined up no more than 10ft apart no trees no plants no nothing all that vast space and they put you in a tiny area might as well been in a parking lot and nothing to do but hike , hike and hike ; no lake ; river water hole; nothing but very long trail hikes at high altitude and a 60 mile rough ride out . So its for hiking which is fine but my goodness fix the Camping part its a National Park maybe more people would go

To fully enjoy Dog Canyon you must hike or ride to the top of the mountain.

This place is so remote and beautiful. No cell service, which forces you to stay off the internet. Great trails and scenery. If you want to escape everyday life this is great place to get away from it all. I’ll try to come back here again.

Great facility and staff. Late November stay so was the only one there most of the time. The hiking is a must with several options by level. You are here for the view so enjoy it!

The RV sites (only 4) are packed in like Sardines. There is plenty of space and after a 2 hour drive off the main road to get to this VERY VERY remote site it is shame to have so few sites, and to have them so close together (like a paved RV site)... It was very disappointing. No privacy, No trees, Poor use of space. On the flip. It is surprising and pleasing to have running water and electric heat in the bathrooms. This was a blessing during the cold.

The camp was well maintained. 5 star bathroom for a remote campsite. The park ranger was so helpful. I wish I'd got a name. She gave us great advice on a hike to take. She resolved an issue of conflicting reservations with other campers with calmness and kindness. I'll definetly be back. Several reviews I read before going said, don't make this your "go to" spot, but if your passing through it's nice. I totally disagree. Its worth the trip just "to go" here.

This is a beautiful, very remote campground. The scenery is lovely as you are surrounded by mountains and near a stream. Two important things to note. #1. This campground is not accessible from the main park entrance. It is a two hour drive from the main entrance.#2. It is very remote and there are no services nearby. Gas up before you leave the main highway. It is worth the drive.

I enjoyed my two day stay at Dog Canyon, but would state it is not for everyone. If your main intention is to hike in Guadalupe Mountain National Park then I recommend it. If your main reason to stay in the park is its proximity to Carlsbad Caverns then you are better off at the Pine Springs campground than Dog Canyon, distance-wise. Dog Canyon is remote, and the roads to get there are filled with cattle grates and are a bit rugged. I stayed in a pop-up trailer in one of the four RV spots, which are situated very close together in a parking lot. It is a bit of a hike to the bathroom, which was clean with flush toilets (no showers). The sites were level, and face a very beautiful view of the canyon walls. The tent area is very nice, with well appointed pads, but be prepared to haul your stuff from the parking lot. There is no option for fires or charcoal grills - propane stoves only. The park ranger was super friendly and took pride in the campground. WiFi service is available at the ranger station, and if you log in there you can sometimes maintain service at your site. Horse corals are available. Stay there on a clear night; the stars put on a beautiful show.

This campground is isolated and peaceful. What a special opportunity to truly enjoy the rugged nature and isolation the Guadalupe Mountains can provide an energetic explorer!
