The only thing I did not like was there was no way to lock the mens restroom

The drive to the campground is beautiful Stargazing was phenomenal. Site and facilities well-maintained. It's very isolated so be comfortable with that.

The bathroom at this campsite is a national treasure!Main things we like about this site:- no cell phone signal- cleaning flushing toilets in a structure with electric lighting- great views in the canyon- really nice trails- has a nice sink with running waterfor cleaning dishesSuggestions if your visiting:- bring your own water for drinking and cooking.- try to get there before sundown the drive there can be difficult at night.- make sure you have any maps you need downloaded to your phone

Nice secluded campsite - neighbors were friendly but quiet. Only downside is the lack of showers but the heated bathrooms were a plus!

if it's busy you aren't going to have much privacy, but it's far out enough that it's not often busy

We loved the site, next to the bathrooms. Plenty of space to spread out and shade.

A quiet, end-of-the-road campground. A great place to stage for a backcountry trip. No fires allowed, even charcoal. Gas stoves are OK. Running water is available. Wifi is available at the ranger station, about a three minute walk. Lots of birds and deer. Be prepared. The nearest gas is in Carlsbad or White City, nearly 70 miles away. Likewise, no other amenities near by. Get away from it all!

Someone was in my campsite! I reserved ahead of time, and when I arrived, two people were already camped in my site. It was after the visitor center and ranger station were closed for the evening so we had to sort it out. Obviously we didn't have service. They thought all the sites were walk-in and up for grabs. Preventing these miscommunications in the future would be greatly appreciated! Nobody likes these types of confrontations, especially when it means one party may not have a place to sleep that night. Thanks!

If you can, avoid Tent sites #1 and #2. While scenic, their close proximity to the bathroom detracts from being in the great out of doors. Otherwise, it's a great campground.

My family and I stayed at Dog Canyon Campground the first week of April after we visited Carlsbad Cavern NP. It is one of the best maintained NP campgrounds I have ever camped. Given its far distance from the main highway and it only has 9 campsites makes it a very peaceful campground. The restroom was well maintained and it was even heated, which was great since the temperature dropped below freezing during our stay. The campsites line a creek at the bottom of a hillside. The view was absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend this campground and I think it is worth the drive.

The campground is about 1 hr. 45 min from Carlsbad Cavern NP and Sitting Bull Falls is about halfway through the drive. I would suggest 2 nights at the campground, so you can visit both parks.

The campground is well kept and finding your sit is easy. Also the bathrooms were really warm which was fortunate because it was in the 30s overnight

Arrived in cold conditions. Be prepared for a remote location with quiet conditions and the very best night sky. Good hiking to be had.

Beautiful campground! Very remote but tent sites are very well maintained. Heated bathrooms were surprisingly clean and having a wash station for dishes was so nice. Herd of mule deer wandering in and out of the campsite was fun to watch. Only downside is inconsiderate campers arriving after dark and then proceed to set up and cook and talk loudly until around midnight when we finally asked them to mind their volume. Everyone else we met was considerate and friendly though campsite was not full by a long shot. Definitely different than the other side of Guadalupe. The canyon is beyond beautiful and so worth going too! Recommend over crowded pine springs campsite!

Dog Canyon is a beautiful location on the north side of GUMO (about 2-hr drive from Pine Springs). There are no gas stations or stores nearby, so make sure to bring everything you'll need for the trip (and a full tank of gas). Flush toilets and potable water are available on-site, but no showers. The campsites are pretty close to each other with very little privacy; best one is number 6.
