Campground was very shady, quiet and along a large creek. The creek could be heard at night even inside the camper. Saw one elk and got a glimpse of a bear. Overall a great stay. Research the road in if you have a trailer. Definitely a windy, steep, gravel, one lane at times road but worth the drive in once you're there.

We LOVE Cataloochee. We camp here every year- and multiple times a year. Plan to come back real soon!

The campground is small and quiet and sits along a creek. The bathrooms were clean and had stainless steel sinks and counters and supplied soap and a high-powered hand dryer. The volunteer camp host needed to see our reservation because we made it just 2 days before but because we did not have any cell coverage or WIFI, I could not bring it up once we were there so make sure that your either print it out or have it pulled up and accessible on your phone ahead of time. We were able to see a herd of elk at dusk the day that we arrived, which was amazing. The road to get to the campground is a narrow, winding road, some of which was gravel so a bit of a challenge to get to.

Nice camping spots, just poorly managed. First thing issue, there is no campfire wood available on site. That means an hour drive (30 there and 30 back) to the closest place that sell it. Next item on the list was a 65’-70’ tree fell in the campgrounds around a tent and a camper. I watch the whole thing in amazement. Could of easily killed someone thank goodness no one was hurt. The trail maps that were provided aren’t worth wiping with…. But again a lot of the camping spots were very nice.

Large campsites, clean restrooms, friendly camp host. Very small and secluded campground but that kept things quiet. Hiked two days and didn’t run into anyone else on the trails. Saw plenty of Elk with some in the campground.
