Do NOT book a site here if you are afraid of narrow roads and blind hairpin turns on steep, barrier-free terrain. The destination was not worth the stressful drive as sites were tight and families let children run the place without respect for campsite boundaries. Screaming gangs of children are tolerable in larger campgrounds, but not in this fishbowl with nowhere for them to go and at 7:00am. The best part of the experience was the host. Recommend reminders of campground etiquette (not that offenders would comply anyway) and a more severe warning about the access road on the rec.gov description.

As always, the Cataloochee Campground was enjoyable to stay at for the week. All the grounds and facilities were very clean. Unfortunately my stay was punctuated by a loud, obnoxious group of 4 or 5 guys that disturbed those near them, myself included with their hollering, laughing and cursing until 2:30 PM one evening. And this was after the host told them to get quiet. The next morning the host told them to leave the campground immediately or she would contact the park's law enforcement personnel to have them evicted. The group cleared out by about 10;30 AM and the campground returned to being peaceful and quiet. I commend the host for taking care of this situation as promptly as she did.

This is a small, very quiet campground. This is not the place for large/noisy groups.

The swtichbacks up to the campground road may be something to consider. Go slow. I did ok in a sentra so road is not backwoods primitive, but hairpin and part gravel. Go slow.

Wonderfully remote with great trout streams and historical buildings all over the place. The campground being well kept and the abundance of Elk made for good memories! The lack of onsite firewood for sale was a bit of a let down since chainsaws are prohibited in the park. There is plenty to scavenge firewood wise all down the road. Just be careful! The road in is full of blind curves! A truck would be useful.

Fly Fishing is your best bet in these waters. The onsite host was very helpful and even told us where the best places to fish were!
