We arrived (9/14-9/18) knowing we were staying outside the peak season, but was surprised that pretty much everything was shut down in the area. I understand the seasonality of the Glacier area, but weather was great and there were loads of people and cars accessing the area. Hiking trailheads were packed with cars and all lots were full and many, many vehicles were parked along roadside. Seemed surprising that all facilities were shut down. Hotels were closed, boats and cruises done, and campsites shower and amenities were limited. No firewood, no cell service (which was fine), and no showers. That said, the area is spectacular with great hikes and amazing views. We stayed in the campground, which was a miracle to actually get online reservations given the 4 day before reservation window. Many Campground specifies only 1 vehicle per campsite, but we found that as long as your vehicles fit in the boundaries of your drive access, more than 1 vehicle is allowed. Not knowing that, we eventually secured a second site for a few of the later days, but then couldn't cancel once we got there due to no cell service. We were able to notify the camp host and after a day found a "buyer" for our extra site, though there was a wasted day/night the campsite was empty. That seemed to be the case for many sites in the campground that were empty, even though people were constantly asking the host for availability.Howerver, my biggest complaint would be the road access to the area. Crazy there is a stretch of poorly maintained dirt/gravel road into this very busy area. Traffic was especially busy morning and evening. Road was rough and very dusty and rocks were flying from tires going both ways. I heard this was the way it is going to be for future, which I don't know if true, but it's a shame the NPS can't do better here. I know, outdoor experience etc., but this is a major access area, not some backroad trailhead.

The road into Many Glacier is not paved and it is in poor condition. This is unacceptable for a national park, especially one with such a long heritage and that is so well liked by so many!

The campsite was very clean and close to the Grinnell Glacier hike we did the next morning. It was a nice camping experience
