Nice, well-maintained campground on Lake Allatoona. Check-in process was easy - make sure you have your senior pass with you to confirm your discount. Red Top Mountain State Park is almost next door with some nice hiking, and the Silver Comet Trail is close enough for a nice bike ride. Fishing in Lake Allatoona was pretty good - my buddies were catching smallmouth, and I caught a couple of catfish. Bathrooms in the campsite areas are limited - only 2 gender-neutral, lockable rooms - but have shower, toilet, sink, soap, and hand dryer. These serve about 15-20 campsites, so if there were more tent-campers than RV campers these rooms being unavailable while folks showered might have been a problems, but since most of us bring our facilities with us, we were OK. There is a larger bathhouse along the exit road near the dump station. Campsites were paved and level, and most seem pretty easy to get into. Electric and water well-positioned. Picnic table, fire grate, and lantern pole are on or next to the gravel tent pad - a large tent and a large fire might have been incompatible on our site, although since it's a large pad and the grate is in the corner, it might have been OK crowding the picnic table. Many lakefront sites have beautiful views, and some have paths down to the water. We used one of these paths (next to one our our group's site) to carry canoes/kayaks. There is a launch area and beach in about the middle of the campground. Lights and noise from the marinas and homes across the lake were a slight detraction. We could hear a train occasionally (which we enjoyed), and occasional road noise (I-75, perhaps) but not enough to deter us from returning to this very nice campground.

The views were spectacular. Sitting in our van and looking at the reflection of the full moon on the lake. We didn't have anyone on either side of us so was very private which we loved. Would have been nice to have both bathrooms working as everytime we went to use restroom or shower we had to wait. Only down fall but a biggie. Enjoyed our walks. Great place. likelik

Ants are really bad here and the on-site managers are so rude. We wont visit again after how hateful the attendants were

We had a great stay. We also were under the impression that sewer hookups were going to be installed at each campsite or a couple of more dump stations were going to be installed when they were closed for over a year, but no such luck. But overall, Mckinney is one of our favorite camping spots whether we are by the lake or away from the lake. Its clean and well maintained and the hosts are friendly.
