Really liked my campsite 51 right on a quiet little cove. You can hear the trains day and night but its not blasting you awake or anything, more of a cool in the distance kind of thing but you do definitely hear them. One thing I did not like is the fact that they dont lock the gate and Im guessing they tell everybody that comes up to the guardhouse that fact like they did me! Im a solo female camper and I feel much better when the gate is locked when no one is at the gatehouse! The couple that checked me in were super fantastic and said they were just helping out for free so the campground didnt have to close! They need more workampers so if youre looking please come help out! The ones up at Lake Lanier are just as desperate!

Very beautiful campground with easy access to nearby attractions. Only negative is the train horn and some days the traffic from the interstate could be heard rather clearly.

It was a nice sitesome folks across the way didnt abide by the silent/quiet hours. Im not sure if there is still management on site or making rounds at night but it would have been nice.if they had/were. Otherwise, pretty nice!!!

We were in site 51, a paved back in with water and electric. There was a slight slope down the drive but leveled out front to back. Slight side to side lean. Very good water pressure. Wonderful view of the lake and the setting sun! Great place for long dog walks.

His was our 1st time taking our RV camping. The campsite at McKinney was clean, beautiful views and level. The staff at the gate was awesome. It was just a place will plan to return to very soon.

We needed to leave the next morning at 6:15 to go to work only to find the gate was locked. It was padlocked with no way out of the park. Yes they had a sign that stated the gate would open at a certain time but never would I have thought they were referring to the "exit" gate. I was appalled that they would "lock" campers inside the park. I am a senior and have been camping in some form most of my life and I have never known of a campground that would LOCK the gate with no way out. When a gate is used, they would issue a gate code to allow exit and entrance after hours. I don't see how the Corp. of Engineers can legally lock campers IN with no way out. AND, the camp host was anything but nice when we woke him and asked to unlock the gate. Also, there was another camper trying to exit to take her son to the doctor. What do people do should they need to exit due to an emergency, or if emergency crews needed to enter to assist someone or what a tragedy if a forest fire broke out. I know that is a long-shot but it is my opinion that you cannot lock people in with no way out. Very poor design and terrible camp host response and representation. The campground itself was very nice and would like to stay there again but not until they address the gate situation.
