Excellent campsite! Beautiful lake, and beautiful sites right on the water. Very kind and helpful camp hosts (thank you Ava & Marilyn!). The other campers were also very kind and friendly. The facilities were also very clean. Looking forward to coming back in the future.

With its large and extensively-wooded camp sites we have enjoyed camping at Bolar Mountain for several years now. We really enjoy the lakeside camp sites. This is the first time that our camping area had a camp host. We have tried to be patient with maintenance issues that have existed each year that we have camped at Bolar Mountain, but the camping area continues to suffer from several maintenance issues. For example, several fresh water taps were not operational during our visit, and there were trail maintenance issues (i.e. fallen trees) that prevented us from using the hiking trails. Even though it is recommended that campers not bring firewood, since there is no firewood for sale service at Bolar Mountain (that we know of), and scavenging for firewood is a challenge, we continue to be disappointed in the lack of this important service. In general it appears that the Bolar Mountain camping areas continue to suffer from lack of resources to properly maintain the facilities.

This was our second summer camping at Bolar Mountain. We really enjoyed ourselves in 2023, but it was clear then that staffing issues were impacting services. It appeared to us that this summer those staffing issues have largely been resolved. Camp sites and services were well-maintained and staffed. We normally reserve a lake-side camp site, which are wonderful. Definitely our go-to summer camping destination.

Before this negative experience, we have been camping at Bolar Rec for about 22 years. Every trip has always been amazing. We waited patiently while the grounds were closed to rebuild the sewer system. You cannot imagine how happy we were to see it was reopened! We arrived to find the bathrooms were closed. This was a big problem for our tent camping friends who required flush toilets and hot showers. There was no firewood available to purchase anywhere in the campground. We were in loop B and the host was never there. We checked several times a day every day for 4 days and no one was at the host B site. We went to loop C and talked to that host looking for help - she was rude... ran us off and told us we were not allowed to come into loop C. Then as we left the campgrounds, we discovered that the dump stations were closed and we were expected to haul our sewage back over the steep mountain and back home with us. When we go to other camps without hosts, bathrooms, or dump stations it is usually a $5 per night fee. Bolar was very expensive for the complete lack of amenities and support. The notice about the bathrooms should have been sent out in an email earlier so we could adjust our plans accordingly. Also, signs should have been posted that teh dump stations were closed so campers using an RV tank could know how to plan.

We reserved #51 campsite. It was a premium lake front view. I loved it and so as my husband and kids (8,10,12yars old) The view was breathtaking and so relaxing. The bathroom and shower was very right behind and very clean. We would love to come back for longer days.

The marina store is closed for this season so the Mountain Grove Store/Gas Station (on Rt 39, left off of Bolar Draft Rd) is the closest location for gasoline and necessities. It also has cell service at the parking lot. The only other location where cell service is reliably available within the campgrounds is near site #32 (Loop 1) down by the water. This spot has never failed me for Verizon service.
