Always a great time at the cabin

What a fun place to stay. Our family had a great time here. We are thankful for those who have worked to preserve this place and make it pleasant lodging! This is the sixth ranger cabin that we have stayed in, and its one of the best. Its clear that a lot of time and consideration has gone into making it pleasant. Even the outhouse has been made into a pleasant little place. As my husband said upon arrival, Its like they actually want you to have fun here!Things we did not expect to find but definitely appreciated: dark curtains, comfortable beds, large sofa, fans to bring in cool air, puzzles, games, extra toilet paper, corn hole set, marshmallow sticks, lighters, and comfortable campfire benches. The kitchen had nearly everything you could want, including plenty of dishes and bakeware, even Crock-pots, a cast iron pan, glass baking dishes, and so on.We didnt expect to be able to have a campfire in early September, when there are burn bans in much of the West! But there is plenty of moisture in this valley, so smores were a staple part of our diet! The basement below the house stores plenty of extra chairs and other supplies for a large group. We were pleased to find a large, deep, cold swimming hole in the creek near the house! The only thing we found a little challenging was finding the turnoff to Tally Lake. Its about seven miles from the cabin. Once we did find it, we spent a lovely day there kayaking and cliff jumping. It has the best jumping-off cliff Ive ever seen.

This is our second time at Star Meadows. The cabin & bunkhouse have been renovated and are super cute. Great range & fridge. Love that our little dog cancome along. Previous folks left a mess in the kitchen for me to clean, which was disappointing. I definitely recommend, close enough to town, but remote enough for no phone or internet.

Great stay. It's a easy place for a large group. We took a bunch of Girl Scouts for a winter overnight. The outside fire pit, outdoor space, and proximity to hiking made it easy for us!

Amazing location - far enough to be quiet and dark at night, yet close enough to get to town/big mountain. Lots of good winter hiking and so, so clean. Everything needed is there, quite deluxe. Hack: use forest service directions, Google sends drivers down an unplowed road! We loved this place for warm winter getaway!

The main cabin and bunkhouse made for an excellent two night stay for our family + and handful of my high school daughter’s friends. The game/book/puzzle area is so well stocked that if staying here again, I don’t know that we would even bother to pack any from home!

Well equipped cabin in a beautiful and quiet location. No cell service which was the best feature of all.
Very cozy cabin. It was great to have consistent electric heat throughout with a 10 month old along for the trip. Great kitchen and comfy couch as well. We went in February when there was 2-3 feet of snow outside in the meadow and all around the cabin so we couldn’t quite do as much as we normally would at a forest service cabin, but it the nearby snowed-in forest service roads would be a dream for anyone with a snowmobile or dogsled team. Outhouse was very clean and the whole cabin was very clean overall. If you like to play board games or cards, this cabin has the best collection I’ve seen.
Only reason this cabin didn’t receive 5 stars from me is the lack of options for us with an infant, but even if you have kids just a couple years old you could probably have a lot of fun in the snow. I imagine I would be a fantastic cabin for a large family/group in the summer/spring/fall.

Cabin was everything we expected and more. Previous guests did a great job cleaning the cabin; so no surprises there. Nice new refrigerator and electric range. All utensils as well as coffee maker, microwave, etc were in the kitchen. Lots of sleeping space between main cabin & bunk house. All items for grilling were provided other than the charcoal. We brought firewood but there was LOTS onsite already. Great experience and we will definitely be back. Thank you USFS.

It was one of the nicest we've stayed at. Clean, great supplies to keep it that way, well stocked cooking supplies, nice furniture, water on site with hand pump, pit toilet serviced. It was great.

Please clean up the cabin, especially the dishes for the next guests! It’s a wonderful place!
Comfortable beds (except for the futon, but we didn't need to use it), great kitchen, spotless outhouse, all the comforts of home -- without the TV. It was great.
