The campground was great, but visitors need to be prepared for the access route. The road down from the highway is in pretty rough shape, and one side is closed (August 2023) due to a bridge out / landslide issue. Once in the campground, it's tight - make sure you're headed the right direction if you are towing. Otherwise, it was great spot. Trees are thick, water is cold, and we had a great time.

enjoyable campground. nice stream to frolic in.

we usually camp at higher elevation, but man the wasps were intense during our visit. it made cooking pretty unpleasant with 50+ wasps flying around. for our sanity we ate inside our tent. even so i wouldn’t let this deter you from coming here.

we were also probably one of the last to camp here before the caldore fire took over the area. in abundance of caution we left the morning after the caldore started. as we were packing it began snowing ashes... based on fire map it looks this campground may have been bypassed so hopefully after the fires are contained and smoke filled air dissipates that it will reopen again.

Overall, this is a really nice campground. We had enough privacy and shade. The forest here is beautiful and the stream was great to hang out and take a dip in. Barbara (our host) was the best! The wasps buzzing around the site during the day were a bit of an issue. It was far more intense than the other three campgrounds we had stayed at on this tip. Luckily, Barbara set us up with some wasp traps and it helped. THANK YOU Barbara! Be sure to bring at least 2-4 wasp traps to make the mornings and afternoons more enjoyable. Our only real issue was the disrespect and selfishness of our fellow campers. I was so proud to bring my Australian husband camping in Cali. My memory from living here in my 20s was so positive toward other campers and their diligence to keep our forests clean. Wow, was I embarrassed. Some campers at Pipi threw trash wherever they wanted. When the dumpsters were full, they just stacked bags around them. When the dumpsters were taken away for dumping, they threw bags (some opened) into the space where they should have been. Barbara made it CLEAR that there was a large brown bear coming around at nights, so this made for an unsafe late night bathroom runs. Our hosts were doing all they could to collect the bags, but some campers were throwing out far far more than the norm. Really Californian? Do you think campgrounds are hotels where maids pick up after you? Show some respect for your forests or stay home. Keep your trash WITH you when there is no where to dispose of it, and carry it out if you must. The hosts aren't your mommies.
