Temperature was 105 degrees 3 days in a row followed by 5 days in mid to upper 90s. Too hot so cut our stay by 2 days. Not the camps fault but made our stay disappointing anyway. Camp host had sign out more days than not saying camp host not on duty. Lots of people needing assistance seemed to not have help for days. No indicator for alternate contact should immediate need arose. This needs to be fixed.Trees in campsites need dead limbs removed for safety. During windy day this year, medium sized dead tree limb blew down on trailer roof. Two years ago large dead tree limb fell on trailer awning puncturing awning in two places. Very old Ponderosas in camp have many lower dead limbs from normal aging. No sign that these hazard dead limbs are being removed over the years.

Hadn't been to this particular site before, but it proved to be really nice. That is till the wind came up and blew our awning off, no fault of the campground just unexpected.

Ya know, this is a nice campground but only if you love the sound of generators running at almost all hours. First of all why are the quiet hours 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.? That's just plain ridiculous. 2nd of all, why do people come out to the outdoors and have to run their generators so much - a qualifier, I have a trailer and occasionally use my generator to run the microwave but that's it. The crowd here had lights blaring, music playing, you name it. And I booked this campground based on an article saying how nice it is. Well there are nice sites and you might luck out and get one on the river, but overall this is not for tent campers. The camp host enforced one generator running after hours only because he was right next to her. And he wouldn't respond till she called the police to do a "welfare check".

We really enjoyed our stay at the Smiling River campground! Clean, quiet, friendly camp host, and just such a beautiful area. We tent camped and were lucky enough to get a spot by the river, but honestly there's not a bad spot in this campground. We were a little concerned about not having a restroom with showers onsite, but there were multiple places around the campgroup to get drinkable water, and the bathrooms (vault toilets) were kept very clean. Highly recommend checking out the Camp Sherman store, the Wizard Falls Hatchery, and the amazingly beautiful blue Meltolius water flow at Bridge 99 (right by the Hatchery). We will defintely be back!

My happy place! The River is so peaceful!
Lots of places to hike and bike!
The summer has become too busy but we’ll plan our next trip to the Metolius in the fall when it’s quieter.

We have been meeting friends every year for 40 years already mg the river at a prescribed time give or take.
The reservation system works for people with time on their hands and are organized.
It's tougher for others. The system leaves campsites vacant that wouldn't be in January be with FF available
