The mosquitoes were really bad, but that’s par for the course this time of year. The fishing was great, and we enjoyed swimming and playing in the water at little lava.

CAMP HOSTS WERE GREAT, TAKING REALLY GOOD CARE OF SITES AFTER CHECKOUT.
SOME CAMPERS WERE EXCESSIVELY LOUD LATE INTO THE NIGHT (AFTER MIDNIGHT), BUT THAT IS TO BE EXPECTED AT ANY CAMPGROUND.

Over Labor Day weekend we stayed in site 35. We have a 32 foot trailer and was able to back it into the site without much trouble and it was fairly level. This site is next to a path that connects Little Lava Lake and Lava Lake campgrounds and access to the path cannot be hindered by your vehicle(s) or trailer.

Note that Lava Lake Campground has water available, but no electricity and it is in the mountains which equals dirt, pitch, and bugs. It also (depending on the time of year you stay) is warm-hot during the day, but gets cold at night. So pack accordingly.

Site 35 is back of site living meaning the picnic table and fire ring are at the rear of the site vs. on the right side of your trailer. This really didn’t pose an issue for us, the terrain between the picnic table / fire ring to the trailer site was free of tripping hazards. This site also provided some great shade, which enhanced its privacy level.

Lava Lake resort is a short walk from Lava Lake campground and has a small store and is very well maintained. It has a dump station that can be used for a fee of $2.00.

Little Lava Lake and campground is also very nice, however the road into the campground is slightly washed out.

The camp host(s) we’re very friendly and attentive, but didn’t hover. The bathrooms were cleaned daily.

Most of the picnic tables that I noticed needed replacement as they were very worn, but still usable.

Must see-destinations include Todd Lake and hiking up to no name lake and we actually spent more time paddling on Little Lava Lake and Hosmer Lake than Lava Lake.

Toilet on circle with sites 30 - 31etc., was full to the base rim of the toilet we were told. The building was taped off from usage. After a camper called the forest service office and complained, they were told they would get someone there asap to pump it out. About a week from the complaint to a septic service company coming to pump the vault out. There was know notice posted other than caution tape on the outer structure. Upon arrival and setup to the day we left, the camp host didn't connect with us at all. The Lady host cleaned the toilets (they were clean), but the gentlemen host just rode around the camp ground in the golf cart checking and updating the sites reservation tags. We've gone to Lava Lake camping for 15+ years and it's picnic table and sites are literally falling apart. If you use a table you just might get yourself a sliver or two, they are in bad need of replacement. Trees have been cut down and left to rot were the fell. I'm sorry to say the Forest Service is not doing a very good job of overseeing at least this camp grounds conditions and or doing the proper up keep that the once beautiful Lava Lake Camp Ground once was. I would be wonderful if the Camp was back into the Forest Service control and not run by private companies that have very little concern for our camp grounds but love the Mighty Bucks they are paid to so called run them.

Very disappointed that we had to pay for a space when there was no water. NO WATER! Why should I bother going back? Very disappointed I did not get what I paid for. I should get a refund!!!

I can not recommend this campsite enough. We stayed at #37 right by the lake, the spot was right off the lake and was an amazing view to wake up to. The camp hosts were polite, helpful and couldn’t have been nicer. The site is a little ways away from Glacier but is worth the trek.

They sell firewood and have clean restrooms.
