I found 5 or more campsites available on Rec.gov so I took my horse and drove 20 miles at 7 AM to only find that the Camphost had already given their friends all the open campsites by writing their name on the sites and no one in them.We later pre booked and camped. Wouldve preferred the horse pens had real gates not chains

Horse corrals were very nice; riding the Obsidian Trail was amazing! The water cistern was filled frequently which was great. Next time I will choose a different site; 13 is really close to the main road.

So happy there was only horse people in camp this year. Please make sure it stays that way. As an avid horse camper I appreciate the sites being saved for horse people only.

There were several people occupying horse camps that didn’t have horses, they had boats. Six people from my horse club couldn’t get reservations due to booked.
A lot of the corrals were in bad shape.

This pull thru is right on the road which is dangerous! I was barely able to get off the road and put my slide out! I could not put my awning up and the pens are in the sun. No close manure dump and stock water is not convenient.

For most of our stay we were the only campers and we had site #10. One evening there was a storm and the four corrals were flooded as the water flowed from up the hill to the lowest point through the corrals. We moved the horses to the site above us for the night and for the next day. These wood corrals need to be replaced and some should not be used at all because they could cause harm to a horse. Replacing problem logs would help, but long term solutions should be considered such as using metal corrals. This is a great camp with fabulous riding opportunities, but it will be used less and less as the corrals deteriorate like what happened at Whitefish Horse Camp near Crescent Lake. The footing in the corrals there became so bad many campers went elsewhere until the footing was improved. I know funding is the issue, but most riders are not going to endanger their horses if the corrals are not safe.
