It's very important to understand that after Labor Day (or pre-Memorial Day/, you're pretty much on your own... Public access to the beach (and the beach pantry!) is closed, and finding someone at the main gate if you need ice or firewood is hit or miss. HOWEVER...go after Labor Day, and go midweek if at all possible...it's like (no, it's NOT like, you DO have a Federal Campground to your own! No yapping dogs, no obnoxious party goers, no CW music @ 120 decibels till dawn....it's camping bliss at nature's best. OMG, why did I let you in on this????

Dan, the camp host, was amazing and the area was super clean. We are already planning our next stay.

This is a great little campground! Most all sites offer privacy. Several have lake access, ours had a small beach which was great for watching the sunset. The only drawback was our inconsiderate neighbors that insisted on running their generator all night. The staff did take care of that the following morning. This is my second time here at Zilpo, and will definitely be back again.

Camping here is great and I would always recommend the H loop as the lake basically surrounds it. There are beautiful walks here and the tent sites arent too close together which I love! Our site, 27 had a path down to the lake to a small sandy area where the kids quite enjoyed playing.

Stunning campground. Private sites, prepped, level, with gravel so rain is no big deal. Only knock would be the restrooms--entire buildings were marked out of order, and even in the ones that were open, showers were missing shower heads, toilets were clogged or out of order, lights were off. The guard shack sells ice and firewood, but make sure you bring anything else you need because the camp store also remains closed as of the first of May 2021, for covid I'm told.

My husband and I stayed here in H Loop site 27 for 4 nights. wonderful view, helpful staff and camp host. Lovely access to lake with little private beach. We are returning to H Loop site 26 in Oct. Its a double and invited our family. If they come they come . If not, we have a large double campsite to ourselves. It has a much larger beach access. Site 27 has the best view, Site 26 the best beach. Both are private. No one very close at all. We couldn't see the occupants in 26 when we were there. In the fall it could be different. Still, looked at all of sites in several campsites while here. These 2 are the best. No electric, water is close, Bath House not a terrible walk. The one nearest us was closed but other one just around the corner from first. Baht House was clean and well maintained. We had solar shower so we didn't use the shower only bathroom. This will now be our go campground close to home.
