Zilpo is a great campground, if not underutilized.- Our RV site was well-paved and had fine gravel over the common area. There was a nice fire ring, a hook on a pole, and a picnic table.- The restrooms and showers were clean with plenty of hot water (solar heated, so it's hot in the summer, and mild in the spring and fall).- Most of the campground has poor cell service (AT&T, T-Mobile) but going up the hill from the check-in gate is a cell tower that provides excellent reception.- The beach was not in great shape - the sand was littered with hard gravel that made walking barefoot painful - with the gravel extending well into the water. It was better to swim outside of the beach areas where it was much more sandy. The water was clean.- The campground store was closed but set to open within a few days of our departure. There was a maintenance issue that deferred its opening. The closest store is 30 minutes away near Salt Lick. Firewood and ice are sold at the gatehouse, though.I wish more amenities were offered at Zilpo. There are trails around but they are not advertised (compared to a state park). Sadly, the fire tower was never rebuilt although it would make for a nice observation platform (minus the shelter building).

I have been camping at Zilpo for about 22 years and it continues to decline each year. The camp sites are huge and more secluded than any other place and that along with the friendly & helpful staff is what keeps bringing us back. When we first started camping at Zilpo, they had clean and visible paths to and around the lake, they used to have activities for the kids (make things, paint things, educational walks). Have not seen that for about 15-17 years. This year, we had poison ivy inside our campsites (I am allergic). This last time (Labor Day holiday 2022) the bath house that was designated for our campsite was closed due to staff shortages, so we had to go to another loop to shower. The restroom had a pipe burst (which flooded my campsite with clean water) and so they opened the bath house and closed the restroom until it got fixed the next day and then closed the bath house again. That made absolutely no sense to me at all! Why would you close the bath house (3 showers & 3 toilets) instead of a restroom (3 toilets)? The walking paths used to be clear and visible, but now they are overgrown and you can barley tell where they are. The Beach area is closed most of the time. We were there for 11 days and the beach was open for 3 of them. The water by our campsite was out of order and has been for at least 3 years. There are toilets and showers that have been out of order for a few years. It is disheartening to see such a beautiful place where you have many memories deteriorate.

They need full hookups. They have great campsites, however, they only have 22 electric sites. They need more bath houses since they dont have full hookup sites.

Beautiful location with tons to do! Be prepared for Ticks though. Make sure you use lots of bug spray and your pets are up to date on their flea and tick preventatives.

Zilpo is in dire need of repairs. They have 1 clean out that works for campers. One is clogged and has feces floating on top of the drain. I put a black garbage bag there 3 weeks ago for rubber gloves etc because there wasn't a garbage can. We just went back and that same garbage bag is hanging there. There are used gloves on the ground. It's gross. We pay to have our boat and camper stored and they don't even weed eat around them. My husband has to bring a weed eater and do it himself. There is garbage around by the lake and boat dock. There is water running out of several of the places to get water. It pours out the back of the pipe when you fill the camper with fresh water. I have pictures of everything I have commented on. We love camping at Zilpo and have for years and the disrepair breaks my heart. It seems management would oversee this better. You can barely get reservations so I know it's being used. The staff are as nice as they can be but the place is a mess.

Beautiful area, spacious, private sites. Helpful staff. beach/store closed due to COVID but no fault of the facility. Wish trail maps would have been available
