As you may know rodents have the potential to spread Hantavirus to humans through their feces, urine and saliva. These viruses can cause pulmonary syndrome, hemorrhagic fever, renal syndrome and death.
We recommend a thorough cleaning of the Shaw house including all cabinets, drawers and closets. Also hiring a professional pest control company to seal up openings in the house and exterminate the mice.
The rest of the stay was great!
Now for the unfortunate part. I doubt a washer/dryer combo will ever show up there, but as there is no maid service you have to rely on the person before you to do a good job cleaning. Bring your own cleaning supplies and count on doing some serious scrubbing before you unpack. The sheet protectors are never cleaned and have lots of stains on them, so remove those and bring your own. There is an issue with the septic tank in the bathroom nearest the bunk beds leaving a terrible odor- bring a little Rid-X with you, maybe that will help. The fireplace in the back bedroom works great and there are three electric heaters to heat up the rest of the place. It would be great to replace the non-working wood stove in the living room. If you open the windows in the dining room or master bedroom, when ready to close them someone will have to go outside and gently press on the window frame while another person closes the latch on the inside- these are just some of the quirks of staying in a really old home. A couple of panes were broken while we were there, so I hope those get fixed soon too. If read these reviews, come prepared with the proper supplies and mindset, you should be ok. Good luck!

I know it’s a FS cabin and expect it to be ‘rustic’ but it sure seemed like some small things would really make it a sweet spot.
Only encountered a few issues during our stay. Cabin does have three fireplaces, yet only one works-master bedroom(did not need a fire, yet wanted the ambience in the main room). Most windows did not open to let the cool breeze in. A couple windows are in need of repair-glass and/or screens. The most serious issue was the lack of water we encountered last day there(Sunday). Roughly had no water for anything(cooking, bathrooms, showers, etc). Made it slightly harder to clean up like they wanted us to, yet easier to leave though, Two older members of our party did encounter paranormal activity in the cabin at night. Nothing out of the ordinary for an older house.
All in all, our three night stay at the Shaw House was enjoyable and would look forward to another stay, albeit a few more days and as along as the water continues to flow.
All in all we had a great trip.
Would definitely return.
