This is the second time in three months that I’ve arrived to find someone set up in my campsite. The first time, the couple moved. This time I took a different site that the group claimed they had reserved. The group partied loudly until 4 am. There’s absolutely nothing we can do when this happens except leave a voicemail for a ranger that they will get the next day. I’ve been coming to Congaree for 30 years. Rangers never check the campsites so apparently people do whatever they want nowadays.

The park was really neat. We saw a lot of owls and wilderness. The facilities were clean and well maintained. It was also very easy to get a tent site and easy to navigate the park.

Had a great time, even though we had some rain.

The park rangers were very helpful and the park itself was just awesome. I not only enjoyed my stay but also learned a lot about the local forest.

I am very thankful Congaree was deemed a National Park!

Best Rgds,

This is for Bluff Campground. It’s not a bad walk from the visitor center, maybe 15 min or so. The sites are decently spaced and there is a picnic table for each site. Make sure to have a tent footprint or tarp since there is quite a bit of debris on the ground from the trees above.

I enjoyed the information pamphlet for the boardwalk. Most of the staff with whom I spoke were very friendly. It was overall a good experience. It did rain that weekend, which was a factor that can't be controlled. I haven't spent much time in South Carolina, so it was a nice place to see some of the natural landscape. I knew the park was small compared to all the other National Parks I've been to, but I didn't realize how small until we were sleeping in our tent and could still hear some traffic and trains. I would like to try kayaking/canoeing on the river if I ever return.

My one complaint is that I did not receive information via email nor verbally from Congaree staff about the prescribed burn and its impact on my access to my reserved campsite. In the park there were signs indicating where not to walk but no signs on where we could walk to access our campsite at the Bluff camping grounds. My friends and I received directions to the campsite from other campers who stayed there the night before.
We walked that path for the duration of our stay and none of the staff we passed ever said anything to us about it. The evening before we left, we were stopped by a worker who told us we couldn't take this path and gave us an alternate route to access our campsite. This interaction would have been perfectly fine except that the way she spoke with us felt demeaning. She kept nodding her head and talking down to us about how we couldn't walk that path. It felt like she was talking to us like we were stupid. When we tried to explain how we got these directions and asked where else we should walk, she kept talking over us and wouldn't listen to what we had to say. Another worker stopped us a minute later and told us the same thing. This was a frustrating experience as, like, I said, no one had stopped and corrected us before this moment.
