Black Lake is a quiet, off grid beautiful place to find a connection with nature. We stayed at the only reservable walk in site, #29. It has a gorgeous view of the lake and private swimming and fishing access. You could probably launch a kayak from there as well. It is an uneven trek from car to site and we highly recommend a collapsible camping wagon to haul your gear in. I will say the mosquitoes were incessant due to the recent weather but I brought bug spray which kept them mostly at bay. The site is very uneven and we found it hard to find room for our tent which was quite large. I wouldn't recommend more than a 4 person tent at that particular site and just know that it will not be on a clear/flat surface. It had a nice picnic table and fire pit. It is a bit of a walk through the woods to get out to the pit toilet so keep that in mind it that isn't your sort of thing. Make sure to bring your head lamp or flashlight for those late night bathroom runs. The water pump is in the main campground loop just a quick drive down the road. The water was cold and very fresh tasting. We brought a plastic 5 gallon empty water cooler jug and filled that up twice during our 5 day stay. The camp wagon made it easy to transport it back to the site. Dumpsters are just down from the water pump. We camped in July, so if the Serenade of bull frogs doesn't help you sleep, which went from dusk until dawn, then I would highly recommend ear plugs. There was sufficient shade for those who need it and plenty of open sun, especially close to the firepit. My teenage son and I loved our time there, despite the weather, bugs and bullfrogs! We also had the most amazing experience seeing a family of otters come very close to our site on the lake. It was a truly magical experience. Every evening we heard elk calls around dusk and into the evening too, which we enjoyed. As long as you are prepared and know what to expect, I highly recommend Black Lake #29 and the surrounding campground.

Beautiful quiet campground! There are a few miles of gravel road to the campground.

It was wonderful to be on a lake and in the wilderness that is not developed at all. Overall, we absolutely loved black Lake and the lack of humans. Unfortunately, on our third day there they opted to do some work in the park that was extremely noisy and disruptive to our serenity.

Very nice well kept and quiet campground. It wasnt busy in early September but I could see it might be in the height of summer. Campsites are situated along the lake and looked like most had access to water. Stayed at site 18 which had a nice view and path to the water. It was level, very large, and enough privacy.

The park has been cleaned up very nicely since the wind damage. The campsites near the beach would be wonderful for a family group.

Nice campsite. Water out of well had excellent taste. Fished in Black Lake, did not catch much, did not see anyone else who was fishing catch anything. Bugs minimal. Note if you have solar panels most sites have heavy overhead leaf canopy, nice for shade but not great for charging solar or looking at the stars. Disappointing that firewood bin was completely empty for entire holiday weekend, nearest place to buy firewood was 20 miles away. Note there are almost no private firewood vendors nearby for some reason.

Stayed here while in the area for my nephew’s mountain bike race in Cable. Super quiet campground. Camp host was super friendly and helpful with any questions. It’s a long drive in on a dirt/gravel rd. Strongly suggest you pick your firewood up on your way in, there’s none available on site

Site 19 is a great site. It offers an opportunity to have a boat, kayak, & canoe right at the site. The site has a very private feeling and is near the boat landing. The site is large and the view is beautiful.
Many of the sites there are really very nice.
The campground host and his wife are very courteous and helpful. They are also super nice. The bathrooms are well maintained and they do a good job keeping the campground peaceful.

We had a wonderful experience at Black Lake Campground! Our camp hosts Travis and Stephanie were wonderful. We swam, Kayak, and met with our 4H club on Sunday. All the kids had fun catching frogs, toads, insects, and a few snakes. One camper even saw a bear! We highly recommend black lake campground

beautiful camp ground and lake.

Campground was very tidy, and vault toilets were very clean. Firewood was available for sale at the host's site, at very reasonable price. Host was awesome! Blake Lake is good for canoeing/kayaking, but a bit small for motorized boating. There's a nice 4-mile interpretive trail around the lake that tells the story of the early logging days on and around Black Lake.

We have been going to Blake Lake as a family for 32 years. The beach is beautiful and clean. The trail around the lake is a fun activity if you enjoy hiking. There are boat landings for fishing as well. It is quiet with many sites to choose from. We will be coming here for years to come.

Campground was nice and host was nice as well. It’s in the middle of nowhere without cell service and is down long, dusty gravel roads, which is fine. The campground road itself is paved though. Fishing was not great and beach had a 3 x 5 foot section of sand. Flys and mosquitos were pretty bad, which is to be expected. I’m giving this a poor rating because the guests at this campground are not very welcoming. We received complaints because we ran our (very quiet) generator during the middle of the day because they didn’t like the noise. We received complaints because our dog barked a couple times while were there. If you want to camp here, just know that this campground attracts folks that do not like larger campers or anything with electricity. We thought maybe we just had bad luck with grumpy neighbors, but I have confirmed this with other people that have camped here as well who have had similar experiences during multiple visits. I hope this helps anyone planning to camp here so you have an idea what you’re signing up for.

Our stay at Black Lake Campground was excellent. The grounds are kept up to very high standards. The camp Managers are very friendly and helpful. The fishing was great and despite some rain on one morning it was a wonderful weekend. So for people that want a little bit of an out of the way campground check this one out. We will be going back soon!!!

Our family, has been enjoying the black lake campground for over 50 years. And during this time there has been many changes, but what remains the same is the beauty and the peacefulness of black lake. To our family, spending time there has a warm feeling of being home.

Very quiet, probably thee quietist campground we have ever stayed at. Dark skies at night. Nice hiking trail that goes around the lake. Very little power boat traffic. Great for kayaking and canoeing. Spacious campsites, many of them are right on the lake. Family friendly place. Clean pit toilets. Boat launch on site. Short distance from Hayward and Cable shops and restaurants. If you’re looking for a genuine northwoods wilderness experience look no further. We will definitely be back.

The campground was overall solid and well set up on a small lake however when we arrived late at night, there was someone else set up in our reserved campsite and there wasn’t anyone to deal with it.

Black Lake is magical. Our site (site 18) had direct water access for the kids to swim and easy paddle board outings. The site was spacious and clean. The host is helpful and friendly. The bugs this year (July 2021) were only an issue at night. I remember mosquitos being awful last year (July 2020) after rain, so it varies with the weather. The lake was like glass during a gorgeous sunset and sunrise. Very few fishing boats, so very quiet and still. We saw loon and beaver! A great spot.

Great campsite to remove yourself from modern life. No phone reception! We heard loon, elk, and a cornucopia of frog/bug song at night. Campground host is knowledgeable and helpful person.

Excellent campground with spacious sites on a beautiful lake - feel like you are one with nature, enjoy gorgeous sunsets over the lake, very nice hiking trail, “off the grid” with limited to no cell service but just want we wanted. A weekend away from it all!

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
