We did not have a good time. It was partially the weathers fault. It was hot, sunny and humid (87 and 75% humidity) when we went. Bugs were real bad, lots of horseflies and mosquitos. Almost no wind to keep them away. The lake is good for kayaking but not for swimming, lots of algae and bugs. The area was pretty and scenic but the forest didnt feel authentic. Some national forests are like small national parks Flathead, Hiawatha, Custer Gallatin to name a few. Some are a lot more dominated by private land and logging. This was one of the latter. So it didnt really feel to us like an adventureWould not recommend anything in this area. If youre considering it, just go to UP Michigan. We liked that far betterAlso would not recommend apostle islands unless you do your research. Ferry only runs twice a week, private taxis are expensive. We had to cancel that part of our trip because it was a logistical nightmare. Also $35 cancelation fee

If you are looking for a quiet, beautiful, wooded campground on a clear, clean lake this is for you. The amenities are limited, pit toilets and a hand pump for water so I would come prepared with bottled water and plan to cook over the open fire.
