My favorite place! The campground is beautiful. The facilities are excellent. The boat ride is great.

I was there 4 nights and half or more of the sites in the campground were vacant the whole time. I wanted to have two campground spaces but they were not available on recreation.gov, I was lucky to get one. I'm not sure why NPS and Recreation.gov allow this to happen but it has been that way as long as I have been traveling to Channel Islands (4 years).

We camped 3 nights on Santa Rosa Island and hiked each day. The pristine beach is spectacular with erosion, plant life, exposed sedimentary layers taking you back in time. The water is very cold and I could not stay in more that a few seconds before popping up. (We were there early June, 2023. We hiked Torrey Pines to Skunk Point and back, Black Mountain loop. Both are great. If I had to do it again I'd stay 5 nights to take in the 5 major hikes. If you take a wagon that is collapsible you can carry a lot more luxuries for your stay. We carried a full backpack, guitar, folding stool, lots of food and other things making our stay even better. The drinking water is good and the bathroom at the campsite is clean. A great overall experience.

Beautiful views, great sunrises. Highly recommend Carrington Point- a less traveled hike that ended with NW views of the island, seals, and pelicans!

Santa Rosa Island is gorgeous and a must-see. The wind shelter at the campsite was useful. We put our tent partially in the shelter because of the winds and our shoes on the shelves and the packs and trash hung up on the nails. The flushing toilets and potable water were wonderful. Water Canyon Beach was like visiting a tropical island. Turquoise waters and white sand beaches. Packing in was a bit more strenuous than anticipated because we packed a bit too much. Most people we talked to said they had the same frustrating first experience. Pack lean and mean and be prepared for a beautiful experience.

Thank you Channel Island National Park providing us with such an incredible camping opportunity, with some luxuries, on Santa Rosa Island. The campsites are well maintained, having access to running water is invaluable, and the inclusion of a flushing toilet with a sink was surprising and welcomed.
