My partner and I camped at Santa Rosa Island in mid June for three nights. Island Packers was our transport out and back. Reliable and professional, I recommend this company for boat transport. We always pick up our motion sickness tablets when we check in just to be on the safe side. Sometimes the channel can be rough to cross. Our island campsite (15) was perfect for us. Potable water is available at a sink adjacent to the restroom building(yes, there are two flush toilets!) and dispersed facets at the campground. The quality of the water taste and smell seems to have improved since drought years. The weather was foggy in the am burning off by midday. We didn't experience high winds at all. The island can be VERY windy. There was a lot of water running in Water Canyon creek, enough to fill small pools to cool off in at the end of the day! The Cherry Canyon trail was going off with lupine, poppy, paintbrush, campion, gentian, California buttercup and many others! The bluffs at the top of CCT provide a picnic table for a lunch stop and nice panoramic views. Torrey Pines trail was equally impressive with wildflower. The stand-outs being Clarkia, California buttercup, Dudleya, wolly sunflower and the beautiful Fairy Lantern, to name a few. Given its elevation, on a clear day the Torrey Pines trail will reward hikers with expansive views of the coast and Santa Cruz Island. We did have fox visitors sniffing around the campsite every day in the early evening like clockwork and noted that they were looking for easy food and marking trails. I was sad to see folks leaving food out at their campsites. It's better for all if the fox hunt and eat naturally. The island offers something for birders too, both inland and at the beach. Aside from plant and animal life in abundance, Santa Rosa Island is rich in geological wonder. It is such a privilege to spend time exploring this extraordinary place. Each year I return and fall in love again.

I love to camp out at Santa Rosa Island. Amazing hikes, and gorgeous beaches. Always see tons of island foxes and birds. Highly recommend the hike to Lobo Canyon or to East Point if you are into long hikes!

The Channel Islands National Park, the Rangers who serve at the Channel Islands NP Visitor's Center, and their concessionaire Island Packers are all first class. Special thanks to the rangers at the Visitor's Center who introduced me to Ranger Juliana when I was planning my trip in early 2023, and to Ranger Kim the day before my trip to Santa Rosa Island on 16 August 2023. Both were gracious with their time when answering detailed questions I still had after reading the extensive and excellent online literature. The online literature is true to what I experienced on the island. One thing not mentioned is the majestic view of Santa Cruz Island one gets from Becher's Bay on Santa Rosa Island. The view of Santa Cruz Island at sunset is not to be missed. Special note is also owed to Ranger's Sam and Alex who were stationed on Santa Rosa Island during my trip. My 7 day trip was cut short by Tropical Storm Hilary. The NPS made the proper decision to evacuate the islands when the cone of probability was still predicting the storm might pass directly up the channel between the mainland and the islands. Alex and Sam, worked quickly to find all visitors who were on the island, including those on backcountry hikes, and ensure their safe passage off the island. I remain thankful that life gave me the opportunity to visit Santa Rosa Island and to meet and know all of the Rangers and Island Packers crew I met during the trip.

If you want to camp on a windy island with great views and cute foxes this is the one.
Santa Rosa Island is truly magical. If I could find a way to live here and work for the park I would, just to stay. The campground is brilliantly laid out. The island has a network of roads that allows access to some wild areas. If planning to go past lobo canyon and Green Canyon, bring an extra pair of shoes as the road is in 12” water here and barefoot is not an option. In two days I hiked 48 miles. I would need a week of 20 mile days to really see the island. The wildness, the flowers, the varying topography and winds and big seas combined to give me more than I expected. And the park staff here are fantastic. Thanks!
Someone told us that the bathrooms on Santa Rosa are, "...the finest in all the National Parks." And I can now confirm that is accurate. We visited in April and our first night at the campsite was lovely, but the next two were incredibly windy. That's not the campsite's fault, obviously, just the natural state of a Pacific Island in April. The windbreaks at the campsite helped, but not much they could do about swirling 30mph winds. Everything inside the tent (including us) was covered in sand in the mornings.

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
