Such an incredibly beautiful campground. Surrounded my so many green hills and trails. 3 stars bc we stayed in a site next to 5ish group sites - I saw that before I booked it and I made the decision but man it was incredibly loud the entire time. There wasnt a moment of peace at the site. So if youre going to stay here either just be one of the big groups or bring headphones. (Site 24) I didnt have that, so it was definitely not a peaceful experience

Scorpion Upper Campground on Santa Cruz Island is a great choice for campers looking for a more secluded experience. Unlike the lower campground, where sites are packed closely together, the upper sites offer more space and privacy, making for a quieter stay. There are a few non-group sites, along with some larger group sites, so its a good mix depending on what kind of camping experience you're looking for.One big plus is that there is potable water available, which makes planning a lot easier compared to backcountry sites like Del Norte. The campground also has picnic tables, food storage boxes, and nearby restrooms, making for a more comfortable experience. However, the tradeoff for more seclusion is that the upper sites are more exposed to wind and the elements. Its something to be aware of when setting up camp, as conditions can change quickly. In contrast, the lower campground is much less exposed, but the sites are closer together and nearer to the pier. One of the best parts of staying here is the easy access to great hiking trails, including the hikes to Smugglers Cove and Cavern Point. Watching the sunset from Cavern Point is a must! The wildlife is also a highlightfoxes are everywhere, so securing your food and gear is crucial.Cell service: I had no cell coverage at this campsite (T-Mobile), whereas I did have service at Del Norte.Overall, Scorpion Upper is a fantastic spot if you want more privacy and dont mind a little extra exposure to the elements. Its a great option for those who want a structured camping experience on Santa Cruz Island while still feeling immersed in nature.

Excellent experience at the campsite. Especially the restrooms were probably the best pit toilets I have ever seen.

Starting the chainsaws for the campground tree-trimming at 7am is simply unconscionable.

Bring running or hiking shoes so you can do one of the many trail hikes on the island. If camping, make sure to bring sleep mat or pad. It can get windy and the island fox are cute but definitely will get any food left in tent so use the fox boxes!!

Very good place to get away from it all.

Definitely a bit of a trek inland but absolutely stunning. Rolling hills at your back and the sea at your front with foxes abound. If you dont have a good time get yourself to a doctor ASAP. Something is wrong with you.

Clean facilities! Easy flat walk to anywhere in the campground. Lots of eucalyptus trees leading to debris but easily moved.

My recent stay at Santa Cruz, Channel Islands National Park, was a journey into pure tranquility and natural wonder. From the moment I stepped foot on the ferry and witnessed dolphins playing in the waves and majestic whales breaching in the distance, I knew I was in for a special experience. The ferry ride offered a breathtaking view of the open ocean, setting the tone for the adventure that awaited me on the island. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the park rangers, whose warmth and knowledge enhanced my stay immensely. They were not only extremely friendly but also went above and beyond to accommodate my preferences, even arranging a campground swap to ensure I could enjoy a more secluded spot away from the crowds. The campground itself was well kept, with clean restrooms and some of the freshest drinking water I've ever tasted. It was the perfect base for exploring the island's hiking trails and the endemic wildlife. On my first day, I took the park rangers' advice and spent time settling in and embarking on a leisurely hike, soaking in the solitude and beauty of the island. The guided kayaking tour on the second day was the perfect way to immerse myself in the island's coastal splendor, paddling alongside sea caves, rocky cliffs, and even exploring the giant kelp forests.\ Overall, my stay at Santa Cruz, Channel Islands National Park, was an unforgettable adventure. The sense of isolation and connection with nature rejuvenated my spirit, while the park rangers' hospitality and expertise added an extra layer of warmth to the experience. I highly recommend Santa Cruz, Channel Islands National Park, to anyone seeking an escape from the ordinary and a chance to reconnect with the nature. I'm already counting down the days until my next visit to this hidden gem off the California coast!

Foxes, beautiful views, beautiful hikes, beautiful birds. Loved the upper area. Seemed more tranquil and away from day visitors.

this was the third visit to Santa Cruz Island, this time we stayed for 4 days, we were a group of 11 friends with 2 sites @ upper campground. Excellent hikes everyday, weather was great with little wind (mid-May).
Water spigot at upper campground was nonfunctional until our last day but we weren't phased. Super bonus was sighting hundreds of common dolphin and a couple Humpback whales on return trip.

The place is great, really clean & quiet. Nice Hikes and different sea activities.
Do consider that firepits are prohibited, but you are allowed to bring a stove.
There's no reception almost nowhere (which is great), except for the beach and some hiking trails
