Absolutely incredible trip! The warnings are true, there are thousands of Western Gulls absolutely everywhere this time of year. *BUT* it's a really unique experience to be a part of! The hiking can be done easily in a brief day trip, but I recommend camping to enjoy the stunning views (especially at sunset!). The campsites are easy to access. Snorkeling is unmatched.

If you dont bring a kayak, everything can be seen in one day. If you do bring a kayak(I highly recomend) you could easily spend a whoke day kayaking around the island and seeing the caves and sea lions. At night time, the birds dont really quiet down but you get used to the sound quick so its not too bad.

Our camping experience in Anacapa island was wonderful and unique, we were lucky enough to have the island all by ourselves during our stay, and we could explore the whole island undisturbed once the day trippers left around 3 PM, the ranger was super nice and knowledgeable, the restrooms were one of the cleanest we've been in all the NPS system, the island felt small and cozy, unbeatable vistas all around.During our stay we shared the island with 9,999,999 seagulls, they were very territorial between them, so much so that the would kill between them, but they never bothered us a bit, never tried to snatch our food or didn't even came close to the trash bags, but please make sure to always keep food in lockers, at night little deer mice will come and check if you had any leftovers, so don't leave anything outside. In short, great experience, so close to mainland yet so different, will definitely recommend.

You have to know that you will sleep into a bird loft. There is thousand of bird everywhere, you are into their habitat. They crie all the day and night. It smells a lot.Very hot and there is no shade. Of course no water !The ferry (168$ !) will drop you off at 11am, and take you up the next day at 3:30 pm. Thus you will spend like two days here. Fog on the morning, perhaps in the afternoon. The sunset is amazing.Just ask yourself whether all of this worth it for the sunset.

A more secluded camping experience for Channel Islands. I specifically picked this for that reason. Sunset was gorgeous. Be prepared for any weather. If birds annoy you, this island isn’t for you. You will literally be camping next to them especially at night. Foghorn runs all day. Bring ear plugs if that bothers you. Overnight camping is more than enough to explore. If you’re an experienced kayaker, I highly recommend it.

The campsite is far away from where you are dropped off, but that is because of the noise from the fog horn. The campsite included bear cages and was very close to a restroom and very scenic view. Be prepared for loud birds, the lighthouse, and a fog horn that goes off about every 10 seconds. It is definitely a bit difficult to sleep on the island due to the noise. Some people were disappointed because of how many birds were on the island and how flat it was, but it is very fun for ocean sports and seeing an amazing view called inspiration point. I highly recommend bringing a tent or EZ Up because if you sleep under the stars you may get pooped on by birds.

My 2 friends and I were the only ones on the island between the Island Packers shuttle departure and arrival. The birds created a very unique environment; the experience with the birds depends on when you go during their nesting season. You will never experience something as unique as this island. Also, if you do end up staying overnight, the sunset over Inspiration Point was remarkable. Unbelievably fun trip! Although, you probably don't need to stay more than a night -- maybe two. The island is less than 2 miles (sq ft) and you can walk every trail on the island in less than 2 hours. The experience with the birds and solitude make this an unpassable experience.

Too much seagulls and poop. No real good trails for pictures. Lighthouse says stay away. Nothing to do there but aggravation and no sleep.
