It was very quiet. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked. Summer is nice because there are few people so we enjoyed our stay.

This is a very basic, no frills campground that is very, very tight, with campers squeezed right on top of one another. Thankfully, very few of our neighbors lit a campfire. If we had done so in the fire ring provided at our campsite it would probably have set the tent on fire. The fire ring in Site # 7 is, literally, just a few feet from the tent pad. But the most glaring deficiency of the Gallo Campground is the lack of shade. In the summer months Chaco is broiling hot during the day and there is ZERO SHADE! This park is so beautiful and so awesome and it deserves a much, much, much better campground than Gallo. The most positive comment I can offer about Gallo is that the bathrooms are decent; clean and functional with areas that are adequate to fill water bottles and rinse dishes. It helps that there are two bathroom buildings and that several campsites are closed due to rockfall. As a result, the bathrooms appear to be adequate to handle the campground capacity (especially given the fact that many people reserve sites but don't show up).If you like roasting in hours of hot sun, in close proximity to neighboring campers and the campground's dusty gravel roads you are going to love the Gallo campground.

Great views. NO cell service nor hook ups for campers (no elec. or water). Running water at heated bathrooms, no showers. Very quiet. Great place to Stargaze! We went in Winter and it was Cold 19*.

If you are interested in Southwestern archeology and high desert landscape, this amazing, unique World Heritage Site with many incredible 1000 year old Native American multi-room structures in and above a remote canyon, plus lot of pictographs along canyon walls is a "must see" for you! One day would not be enough time for all there is to see - two days and three nights would be good - even longer would be better if you have the time and interest. Summer can be hot; late Spring and early Fall are better weather.Be prepared for miles of rough gravel road and essentially no services or supplies anywhere other than a nice bathroom at the campground. Plan to be completely self-contained. Take the time and prepare to hike the backcountry trails to: Pueblo Alto and the Jackson Stairway and canyon overlooks; the Peasco Blanco, pictographs, and the Super-Nova site trail; and the south loop trail to Tsin Kletsin; as well as the shorter trails from the campground itself.

Good quiet campground, flush toilets, close to Chaco canyon sights and visitor center.

It was an unforgettable visit. The park is well organized, well documented, and well-maintained. It is a primitive site - no water except water bottle filles (no 5-gallon jugs), no electricity, no cell service. We were prepared for all that and had a great time! The 16-mile road in is a problem. Towing a triler, it took us an hour to drive safely. You may be able to make it faster.

Good sized RV site for a camper van. Bottle filling station at the water fountain at the bathrooms.

We were at RV site 12 which was very uneven and difficult to level our truck camper. Otherwise, bathrooms were great and Chaco was phenomenal.

Spent 3 wonderful nights at Gallo CG. Quiet and not many campers. Hiked South Mesa Trail. Its about 4.5 miles +-. A must do. Lots of other great hikes also. Would recommend to anybody. They did say there was fresh water available. There was none. All pumps closed. that was the last week of Feb.

This campground was just as described on the website. The bathroom was clean, and the sites were level. It's very rustic as there is no water, but that's the way it was described! It was very nice to have dumpsters to get rid of our trash before leaving. It was very quiet at night, and the dark skies were filled with sparkling stars! I would definitely recommend this campground.

sites are well marked, well kept and quiet. Each has a picnic table and fire ring. No fresh water except what was in the bathroom. Don't know if this is an ommision but there was an inoperable filtered water dispenser outside the bathjroom that was not working

This is a great dark sky campground. The hosts were excellent, meeting us at the entry, and helping us find our site. Great hike right out of the CG.

Remote location difficult to access but worth the effort - if camping be prepared for no showers - there is really only a site and drinking water provided - No wifi to speak of. Have to climb to the top of the campsite to access it. That said you get incredible night skies and silence you can hear. The ruins are powerful and leave you pondering why on earth anyone would build sometime so grand and impressive - in what is now the middle of nowhere [back in the day of course it was not the middle of nowhere it the center of a grand SW empire ] - 20 miles to nearest good road.

Camp site #16 is a fantastic location ,, from here you can see the sun rise and sun set. We found the camp grounds very well maintained and clean.
Beware of the roads leading into the park !! give yourself extra time to travel the very rough road..
This area is a must see !!!!!!

Beautiful campground with an incredible view of Fajada Butte. Petroglyphs and ruins at the edge of the campground. I hope to return and stay here again.
