Great location close to some epic history. Campsite and restroom was clean.

We came in a small RV and were prepared for no electrical connection, water, hot showers, or sewer service. We were pleased to find that drinking water was available and there there were nice bathrooms with flush toilets. The sites were nice with adequate space between adjacent sites. Of course, the road in (from the north) was challenging and very rough in places, but not too bad if one is not in a hurry. Of course, seeing and learning about the ruins makes it completely worthwhile. The visitors center is excellent. We wished we had had a bit more time and would come again.

If you can get through the rough roads to access the park, then you will be in for a magical stay at Chaco Canyon. Gallow campgrounds location is its biggest benefit, as the campsites are primitive. This place is special and well worth the trip.

Chaco is a great place to pray, ponder and plan - and re-boot.I used to visit twice a year, but always try and spend at least 2 nights under the stars.I was very surprised to see the calamity of the rockfall, but was very impressed how the park took care in letting folks gander at it, and closed only the minimal amount of campsites.A shout-out to the camp Ranger Carl, who helped me jumpstart my truck the morning of my departure. I made it to Cuba safely, and purchased a battery.I regret the tribe won't and don't do ANY thing about the road into the Park...One has to realize the indigenous don't really WANT people there. Shame.

As most visitors have said the two roads to the campground and visitor's center are very rough especially when pulling a camper - you just need to take them slow and be mindful of the conditions (it is best to try and reach the turn offs from the main highways fairly early in the day so you don't have to drive the dirt in the dark). The campground is very basic but that isn't the reason for visiting the area. Windy conditions made our stay a little uncomfortable, but it was still a very worthwhile trip.

While the sites are very close together, the campground is very well maintained and clean. The restrooms are very clean and the running water was a definite plus.

Wonderful, beautiful place. Maybe due to the locations spiritual roots or maybe because of the long bumpy drive in, Gallo is one of the most peaceful and quiet campground weve camped in. I only wish wed heeded the sign about the southern route out. It had rained for a few days when we were camping and we did slide off the road on the way out.

We have been to Chaco Canyon and the Gallo Campground many times. The campground is basic, but adequate, the facilities are kept clean and usually it's quite peaceful, baring the occasional camper with the Harbor Freight generator.My primary complaint is that the Recreation.gov site often indicates the campground is almost full, when in fact there are a number of vacant sites. For example, I checked for available sites two days in advance and found a single site, which I reserved. The evening of our reservation we arrived just after 5pm to see a sign at the campground entrance indicating eight sites available. What's happening here? This can make it discouraging if you haven't been successful at reserving a site. Do you drive 20 miles of rough road just hoping there are sites available?

Campground Host was so welcoming and friendly and helpful. A real nice touch. Chaco awe inspiring as always and the campground right in it. Restrooms were spotless (and warm). Darn genny that ran and ran on someones rig (why dont they all go solar!) but other than that a peaceful stay.

Gallo Campground is overall very nice & the filtered drinking water & service sink are much appreciated extras! Like a lot of NPS campgrounds, only one sink in the bathroom is a real choke point at peak usage times. A minor point is that it would be nice if closures for cleaning were at a set time which would be posted & not at peak useage times. Given the demand & closure of many sites due to rockfall risk, it would be great if the campground was expanded.

Excellent campground, clean bathrooms & cold filtered water station. Easy access to visitor center, guided and/or self guided tours through the ruins. Stargazing is fantastic in among the ruins!

Nice quiet campground, though very windy. That road coming in from the south ought to be closed. It’s dangerously rough.

Love camping at Chaco Canyon—the only way to truly experience the magic. Sites are a bit close, but everyone is mostly respectful of other campers.

It was GREAT! So happy that we could make it
If there are something to say to make it better is the route, OMG we almost turn around and we were not going, it was TOO bad, we have a RAV4 with tear drop camper, and we had to drive 5 m/h
Beside that? Everything GREAT!!!
Totally recommend to everybody!
THANKS

No utilities but probably the nicest campground. Restrooms were supurb.

Spent three nights here. As you might expect, the campgrounds were not shaded as there are no trees in the Canyon. RV campsites were very close together and generators were a bit annoying. We have a tent trailer and no generator. But the bathrooms were heated and clean and there was running water in the campground. Conveniently located in the park. Native American ruins within the campground too. Overall, a very positive experience and avoided the summer heat!

Beautiful place. Seeing the stars at night so clearly was amazing
@WendyC435 · Camped on Oct 15, 2021 at Campsite #14
The campground is fine. The roads getting to the campground and park are not properly marked or cared for and we ended up in a bad situation. Use 4x4 only in the daylight and read the park website for entry route as not all road signs are correctly marked - if at all.

I would not take my RV to gala campground again because there is one horrible section of road with washboard conditions. Only 4 miles long it was horrible and knobs on my cabinets actually rattled loose. There’s nowhere to turn around either. The campground what is fine with the beautiful surroundings.
The visitor center was being remodeled so there were many empty showcases. The campground was full but very quiet at night. It is very weedy when you leave the immediate camp parking. Goat heads were bad.

Tony, the host on duty while I was there, was great. The bathrooms were very well maintained and the campground was clean. There was easy access to trash dumpsters. Chaco Canyon is magical! I will warn anyone who's never been there before that both the northern and southern routes are awful...with the northern option off Highway 550 being a better one. My Honda Fit made it, but it was treacherous and I would rent a 4x4 next time.

Campground was clean and spacious. Camp host were was informative and personable! And Chaco Canyon was amazing
@CharlesB661 · Camped on Sep 10, 2021 at Campsite #14
The campground is very crowded. There is very little space between most of the sites. There is no shade! There is only one tree in the entire campground. The NPS has not built any shade shelter over the picnic tables. Water is available in the campground. The campground hosts are excellent!

We camped this year at the Gallo Campground with our 21 ft trailer. The campground is excellent and restrooms with potable water available was grand. A dump station was a bonus. Hiking in and around the ancestral ruins is mesmerizing. Three nights were too short to take it all in we will make it a longer stay next year. Go slow on the very rough dirt roads entering the park!
