Nice campground in a beautiful setting. The sunset views of the butte are great. Level sites that are nicely spaced.

We were not able to get to the park due to the muddy roads.

Great ruins. Worth the trip.

We enjoyed our visit to Chaco Culture National Historical Site. It is a slow, bumpy drive into the site, so staying a few nights at Gallo Campground is the way to go. We spent four nights there and the proximity to the sites and trails made our trip more enjoyable.

The park is very beautiful. The location of the campground is perfect. Just the roads to the park are not the best.

Park is amazing and I loved staying at the campsite. North entrance road is dicey so think hard about your vehicle -- 4 miles of unmaintained dirt road that turns to thick muddy soup when wet (south entrance is impassable in those conditions). Last time I was here (March 2024) a storm was coming. NPS staff were amazing in sharing information and checking in on visitors. Visitors banded together too to figure out whether it was best to stay or go. Great community. I left early and made it out but saw three vehicles (2-wheel drive low clearance) stuck in the mud. Special shout out to Sharon at the NPS visitor center for being helpful and so enthusiastic about sharing the history of the site.

Excellent camping experience. Minimal noise at bedtime and during the night. Very, very clean. Rest rooms were more clean than the hotels I stayed in to get to the site. Amazing star views due to no lights. No cell coverage at the campground but you can get service on some of the rim type hikes. Campers were extremely friendly andI felt very safe there.Only improvement I could recommend is the Visitor Center never answers their phone to allow you to check on road conditions into the site or verify reservation. I would suggest taking the north road into Chaco.

Gallo Campground is a nice place to stay for access to Chaco Canyon. I don't understand why the government does not maintain the final 4 miles of the unpaved road from the northern access. It should at least be gravelled on a regular basis, as is the county road for the first 10 miles. For anyone coming in for one night, especially with an RV, it's not really worthwhile. Other than that, everything is great!

Enjoy our stay at Gallo campground. Long drive on bumpy road to Chaco Canyon but well worth it. The campground was clean. Bathroom had flush toilets. Water was readily available. The night sky was utterly amazing. Perfect place to camp when visiting Chaco Canyon.

Campground was very well maintained including the bathrooms. Our site had ample parking for 2 vehicles and a large bordered tent square. Rangers and Host very nice. Some trails and historical ruins right at the campground. Others in the park very close.

I was in Site 10 which is wedged in between the bathrooms and the group sites. surprisingly, it was pretty quiet with only a few people from the group sites trying to cut through my campsite to get to the bathrooms. Overall the campground is quiet and everyone was good about observing quiet hours with most people lights out before 10PM. Chaco Culture park is a dark sky site so I stayed up late to watch the stars and pretty much was all by myself. The only real problem is getting a reservation since the sites are usually booked full almost a month in advance.

If you allow trailers in tent sites, then allow trailers to be in the site, rather than on the road. The #10 site I was in could easily converted so that a trailer could back on to a pad.

Visited in December when things were pretty quiet and only a few other campers each night. I wasn't expecting potable water to be available but was surprised to find water available outside the visitor center.

Things can get a little messy if you plan on showing up after the visitor center closes as none of the reserved sites were marked as reserved. So in theory you could set up camp and somebody could subsequently show up with reservations for that site and make you move. My recommendation would be to make reservations and show up before the VC closes for the day if at all possible.

The least enjoyable experience I've had in the numerous camping done over last 12 months including numerous National Parks and National Monuments. When I arrived at 11AM, the Host took all my info to check me in. However, he added the caveat on if I knew check in was at Noon and you're not "really suppose" to check in any earlier. He said it in such a way that appeared to be a "wink & a nod" like it was okay with him for me to go to the site. So, I thanked him, proceeded to the campground and started setting up. He never said a word to me but apparently called the Park Ranger to report me. By the time the Ranger got there at 11:20AM, I was about 1/2 done with my setup. The Ranger explained I absolutely COULD NOT be there before Noon. I had to take everything down, leave and not come back until Noon or later. REALLY - over being setup 40 minutes early by the time the Ranger talked to me ? By the time I repacked it was more like 30 minutes before I could come back. Seems silly but it doesn't end there.

Had friends also staying there and they arrived a day earlier. They also had an interaction with a Park Ranger over what seemed to be a non event. We all also commented on how frequently the Park Ranger drove through the relatively small campground. May seem like an exaggeration but it seemed like every 45 minutesr they drove through the campground. Talke about feeling like you were camping in a Police State. Certainly didn't leave a "warm fuzzy" experience. The combined experience certainly didn't leave a good customer service feeling. Bottomline, glad we saw & experienced the sites of the National Monument; however, very underwhelmed with our stay at the campground.

On a positive note, the restrooms were CLEAN. LOL

Everything was very good except the part where you could only have a certain number of people in a group. Also the mask requirement outside was a little silly.
