Great little campground! Spots were a little close to each other, but beautiful views .

Privacy is tough in the tight, open campground, but no problems, lots of rain, campground about half full.

Quiet, clean restrooms, park staff cruises by a few times a day and are friendly and helpful.

Thought this was a boon docking campground. So happy to experience functioning bathrooms, running water and power in the lavs.

Not bad , it definitely was 20 miles of dirt road coming in from the south. Road wasn't to terrible. But the weather was also nice. If weather is bad I could see a couple of places that might be tough. The campground was pretty nice, I'm just not used to camping 10 feet away from other people. I have only boondocked before. But a decent experience overall

We enjoyed our time at Chaco Canyon. My husband and I have different levels of fitness. There were a variety of hikes/bike rides that both of us could enjoy. We camped here for four nights. The weather seemed to change every fifteen minutes. : ) This fact kept the campground on the empty side. The road into the park was very doable for a van but I would not like to be towing a trailer due to the ruts. Park staff was very helpful. The museum in the visitor center is one of the best that I've seen.

We were warmly greeted by the camp ground warden, who also helped us with further information. The sites are well kept, the fireplace clean.

The campsite is the worst Ive ever experienced. Packed with no space between camp sites. Never again

First, don't expect private secluded campsites here -- a popular campground, with closely-spaced tent and RV sites. That said, it is a fantastic place to enjoy the canyon. Good fire rings, nice toilet facilities. Spectacular views.

Chaco is one of the most magical places on the planet. The campground, however, breaks its spell. While the facilities are great (utility sink, fire rings, filtered drinking water), the campground crams everyone into a tiny area with horrible acoustics. All sounds and conversations are amplified against the rocks. At minimum, it would be very nice if they could fix the bathroom doors so that they don't slam shut (at all hours of the day and night). Also, group sites should be separated from the rest of the campground -- perhaps move them to the area currently closed due to rock slides? Just turn that parking lot into several group sites -- they even could have their own bathrooms. Will certainly be back to Chaco, but I'm not looking forward to the campground.

The campground is just fine. Good facilities for campers.We happened to be there for 2 1/2 days while the wind was blowing 40 to 60 mph. So after 2 1/2 days we had enough wind and decided to leave.The Park is wonderful though.

Recreation .gov did a great job with setting this up. The campground was disappointing with small campsites so close to others and no sun protection.
@JamesP3218459 · Camped on Mar 23, 2022 at Campsite #34
Campground and visitor center were both excellent. The road into the park was 20 miles of the worst washboard I have ever been on. There were car parts in the ditch that had shaken off of cars and campers. It is the county portion of the road and the park supervisor and employees said there was nothing they could do.

It was a full campground, but plenty of space for each. The road in was pretty washboard in places so take it easy. Chaco canyon was nicely paved and no trouble getting around to all the sites. Visitor center was well stocked and very helpful personnel. True no trees around so bring your own shade cover as the sun is bright. And don't forget that it a dark sky area so the stars and milky way were very clear you could almost touch them. In fact there was an Astronomy club there with telescopes set up that we all were allowed to see the planets and stars closeup. The visitor center has scopes too but they were not allowed to open due to covid.

Chaco Canyon is wonderful place to stay for a few days (or more). Pueblo Alto loop hike is well worth the effort.

Friendly campground hosts and proximity to the entrance to Chaco make this a great place to camp. Dawn and dusk are the best time to view the great houses, with the sun low in the sky creating a warm glow on the rock. You almost need to camp at Chaco to have the best experience of the place. The back country trails are wonderful early in the day before the heat comes on.

This was our second trip to Chaco and we will be back again. The weather is beautiful in the fall and the ruins are amazing. My husband is an amateur photographer and he can't take pictures fast enough. The campground is great, but the road into the canyon is a challenge.
