Rangers ands volunteers at Visitor Center were great, so helpful and informative. Couldn't find the Camp Host when there was a problem.

The campground is quiet and well laid out. The restroom was clean and heated. The information boards were up to date and the check-in process was smooth.

We recently enjoyed a three night stay at Gallo campground, and like all campgrounds, there is always the possibility that someone may run a generator for hours each night and/or have large fires burning. We value Chaco canyon for its utter silence and dark skies at night. The bathroom at the campground was clean and even warm, which was welcome to us since the nights were cold. Overall, we had a wonderful visit.

We were thrilled to camp next to an ancestral Puebloan ruin. Their engineering achievements are astounding and all with stone tools and without beasts of burden. It's mind-blowing.

The campground was well maintained, including the limited facilities. Wonderful views of the mesa. It would be a better place to camp if there was some separation from the RVs/car campers so that the tent campers were not surrounded by vehicles, lights and noise.
@RalphS515 · Camped on Nov 18, 2021 at Campsite #22
The tent sites could be made to accommodate RVs a little better. This is minimal effort. Move a few rocks that's all.

Great location. The NPS had starting closing the gate to loop road at 5pm rather than 9pm a week earlier. Same with the visitor center. 5pm was too early as you missed sunset in the best ruins. In addition, no one from NPS had updated the reservation cards on each site for several days so it was unclear which sites were reserved or available each night. A more phased approach on reducing the hours would have been preferable.

Beautiful setting, friendly staff, good restrooms with flush toilets and onsite dump station. We brought our own water, but could have used the potable water available on site.

I love everything about this place, even that crazy road. There's no place like it on earth!

Wonderful. Plan carefully and be prepared for rain and sudden storms.

Rocks piled on tent stakes are required to hold things down. Restroom utility sinks are convenient for filling water jugs. The spiral bound "Complete Guide" for sale in the Visitor Center has a wealth of Chaco Culture information. Park access via US-550 includes a 13 mile stretch of unpaved rough road. Park access from the south includes 23 miles of rough unpaved roads. Both routes are posted 35 MPH but travelling faster than 20 MPH risks vehicle damage. Driving requires constant attention to avoid potholes, rock outcroppings and particularly bad stretches of washboarded grading.

We had a very nice stay The toilets were clean and worked well. Visiting the ruins and staying in the camp ground allowed us to connect to an earlier time and culture in the great American West.

Excellent. I especially appreciate the potable water at the campground. Looking forward to my next stay.
